Return to Monkey Island!

This was brilliant back in the day. As long as it had the same style and wit to it, I'd get it.

Strange art direction, it looks like a Genndy Tartakovsky cartoon. I'm not a fan but I'll play it if the game seems worthwhile.

Odd I saw that trailer on yt and thought it was good enough. Monkey island isnt a crytek tech demo...

People are odd. I don’t have a problem with the design. Reading the comments some are lambasting Gilbert because he should have used a design similar to Thimbleweed, then other people get upset about that because anything pixels seems to be a curse. Others wanted the design more to be like Monkey Island 3, but Monkey Island 3 isn’t a Ron Gilbert or an actual Monkey Island game – For those who don’t know, Monkey Island 3 isn’t canon, although Murray is in the real third and new game.

It goes on, 3D... Why do some people want this game to be 3D?

This is the thing with the internet nowadays. People think because they can now type anything as a comment on anything that they must be heard, and everyone must bow down to their views. I am expecting this to be a good game, but it is going to be down voted because it has graphics ‘nobody’ wanted. Some real activism right there, it is seen everywhere online.

And yet the great secret: Buy if you want, hard pass if you feel that way.

There are many sides to such interaction. For one example, I backed Spaceventure which is supposedly in development by the Two Guys. It is a game which isn’t being delivered and has been riding on excuses, but it has a vocal community protecting the Two Guys, particularly Scott Murphy. Nasty things are being said by both sides, but there is this expectancy that the backers, or otherwise the consumers, must take a hike. I see this in every nook and cranny.

People only want their own bread buttered.

Just read here to be entertained,

you can't ask anything on their social media, 1) they block you and 2) their supporters dox you. Subtle questions are allowed, but ignored, however, when you show critique you are the one on the receiving end.

I say this because this is what I dislike about the gaming community, it has become pure vitriol where there is no good side any more.

To get back to Monkey Island, I totally understand why Ron Gilbert won't be engaging online any more, but now in his absence, others will take his place and represent the game’s development by spewing schit at anyone who dares to critique the game, ignoring that critique can be good.

Also, some people make up schit, but that is a human trademark. I have read some Monkey Island commentary by both sides where things are blatantly made up to push an agenda.

The animation I don't mind. Looks pretty cool. It's the art style I still don't like at all.

Well, how much work will it be to add a 'old school' filter? most retro titles I've got have the crt/pixel filter options...

Still buying this game but tbh I'm much more excited for other upcoming adventure games like The Expanse, Wolf Among Us 2 and most importantly, Tales From the Borderlands 2. First one was amazing.

New trailers for these coming today at Gamescon I think.

Guys we are incredibly lucky to be getting another Monkey Island game from the original creator of the series, and an absolute legend in gaming. The art style to me is better than some of the hand-drawn editions of monkey island and Im really not precicous about how it looks. There is so much more to an MI game than the graphics.

stopped reading at "Guys we are incredibly lucky"

k. I for one didnt think we'd ever see this game.
I'm neither lucky or unlucky if something actually comes out as to their not our christs for having made or not made soemthing. You are pretty part of the problem once you start christifying people in the development sector (or any for that matter). We are consumers not religious followers.

edit
sometimes a dev (and an actual dev at that) needs to be a cold heartless bitch.

dont know what you're on about dude. I'm glad we're getting this game, I didn't think MI2 would really get a successor and this is it. Unlike SpaceVenture, this is actually going to come out, and best of all, it will allegedly be this year still. If it happens I will regard myself as lucky/thankful/greatful to get to experience MI again - Ive played them all. Im confident with Ron at the healm this will be a good experience and I'm looking forward to it. For you I hope you can enjoy it too.

I guess this is shaping up to be a good year.
