Review: Beats Studio headphones

Dr Dre is the highest earning musician of 2012. Most of that was not from his music though but from these crappy faddy headphones.
 
I don't understand why the rave review, I bought a pair from a rep on the streets of Cape Town and they where terrible. That was R14.95 wasted ... :(
 
Biggest gimmick in music tech. Total waste of money. This product is about "I've got the bucks" or "My daddy is richer than your daddy!", and not about sound quality. It says something about those wearing them: image above sound quality. I'm a sucker for earphones so I buy new units regularly ... and the best I've got thus far is the XBA-3 from Sony and at around R1800 they are expensive for in-ear earphones ... but the sound quality is truly amazing. I've always been a Sennheiser fan but nothing around R2000 comes close. That is the price of the "cheap" Beats Solo which is no match for the XBA-3 ... not even close.
 
Great review, but I have one gripe with Monster Beats heaphones. I have used 3 original pairs (the Studios, Solo's and Solo HD's) and out of 3 pairs 2 were broken within 3 months. Their build quality is so so poor I really don't know how it even got through whatever testing process these are required to go through. I currently have my eye on the SMS Audio Syncs (the Streets if the Syncs don't come down by a grand or more in the next year), from what I've read and seen they seem to have fixed that poor build quality Beats have and still have super sharp bass and noise cancellation features.

No specs, battery life, pricing, connections, nothing...

Disappointing...

Sennheiser all the way! Best sound quality for the price! I've tried other brands double the price of mine and they weren't as clear. Guess that's why Sennheiser's are so popular amongst musicians... (At least that's what my ears say) :)
 
The beats sound nice for sure. But now they make these fakes that I see construction workers rocking, plus you see all these wanna be gangsta teens in the mall with pants at the ankles wearing them. Probably not the studios but it can be hard to tell like the fakes.
 
The Beats sound can anyway be replicated on Android phones with a little app. No need to invest in cheap plastic headphones.

You must never have used a pair of beats. Even the so called beats audio on HTC is just some gimmick that makes no difference

As owner of Beats Audio do you think HTC will give you the real thing in their phones so that you do not need to purchase the R2000+ headphones (and deny them more income)?

I use Volume+ on my Note 2 if I need that sound (which one get tired of quickly). Way better to invest in something like the Sony XBA-3/4 or similar that gives you the full range without altering the music. With the right earphones no graphic equaliser is needed to alter the sound. With Beats the music is beaten-up.
 
Don't get the point of this review. No mention of equipment used or tracks listened to. Could be 112kbps MP3s using a cellphone. It's just a personal opinion and that hints that it's aimed at the mass, fashion conscious market and not audiophiles.
 
Rather buy sennheiser or bose headphones for R2k. Much better sound

What makes the Beats sound what it is? Software. That can be replicated/emulated. Use a good pair of earphones with an app that emulates the same sound effect and there you go.
