Hi guys, anyone here ever done the RHCE or RH Technitian exams? How much do they cost? Where can we write them?

U can do either at Torque-IT, and from what I recall, the RHCT is around about R2k and the RHCE is closer to R4k.

Not really carreer wise, i would like to really get a firm grip of Linux, the Linux+ was fun, but not close enough to fully get me into it!

What do you think? RHCT ftw?

What do you need to know about Linux? What is your field of interest?

If you are not going to do this for a career, then why not learn like the old pros, READ A LOT!

www.tldp.org is your friend

Thank you MyWorld, much appreciated :)

How is the Linux scene holding up in Potch? :)

I have no idea, far to old to mingle with the varsity people.

I constantly get requests for this and that Linux related, but it is not my job, only a passion.

Eish, Ryder you reckon its a solid qualification(s) to get?

The RHCE/RHCT is a solid qualification. U cant braindump and u really need to know ur stuff, its one of the few qualifications on paper which actually determine real world ability

I really hope u know what u getting into, the RHCT exam is not extreme, but not easy either. The RHCE is exceptionally difficult, and I cannot express that enough. We have an RHCE at work, he cruised through plenty of other tough exams but said the RHCE was one of the toughest he has sat...
Good luck and prepare well....

Did my RHCE at Obsidian Systems in Randburg. The most important thing is to practice - get the instructor to break your installation, and then figure out how to fix it. And then repeat.

Fantastic exam - really hard, really fun, really rewarding. :)

+1 Don't expect that passing is a given after doing the course. This is not MCSE. It's also expensive to do so you need to make sure you're confident about the material.

You'll want to find out who does their RHCE training these days. The guy they used to have was (still is) excellent but he left three or so years ago.

I always recommend that people do the exam and certify, it is always worth the money:

Either a company will hire you because they are required to have certified staff to retain their vendor support; or it will set you apart from other people who have similar skills and no cert.

I assume that you could do it at any training company. AFAIK the exam is a lab, and there are now braindumps available for both RH202 and 302....

So u can do Redhat training at Obsidian or Torque IT rite.... But is there any way to do the studying yourself? i.e learn and prepare for the exam yourself instead of paying ridiculous fees for training?

Can anyone recommend courses or books that will prepare you for the RH exams?

Well, the exam is based on real world experience, so technically you can do it without studying at all.... note i said technically :)

My boss had that attitude when he and I went for the RHCE test. He came out with a RHCT while I got a full RHCE.

After caving in and going for training, he got his RHCE as well, and admitted that the training had helped.

Go for training. If you want a self-study qualification, do the LPI exams (about R200, I think, but you still need to know your stuff and a lot of questions are very obscure).
