I really need help. Does anyone know of a way to get a cell number RICA ownership changed to another person. I asked Vodacom but they say its impossible. It seems no one has access to the Rica system, yet it governs us. Not even by losing it can you get it rica'd on another persons name. I am trying to change a Rica'd(In my parents name) Vodacom contract ported to a Cell C Contract on my own name. Yet everyone is pointing me to no mans land.

Any help, and I mean any would be great

Why do you want to change the RICA Details?

Has the network asked you to do this?

As far as I know, due to me registering the Cell C contract on my name, the Vodacom number which is not on my name won't port and will fail when the port process does the Rica check. I don't know how true this is, as I get mixed responses from Vodacom and Cell C call centre.

There is no reason to change the details. As long as the contract is with the right person at the service provider.

Yip correct, hence my question

Not true at all.
You will be able to port.

Thank you for both your responses. Its much appreciated.

Does this mean then, even though the Vodacom contract is on my moms name, I can still port the number to a Cell C contract which is on my own name? And it will still stay Rica'd to her eventhough the number is not associated to a contract on her name anymore?

Well, I had no trouble with this. I bought a second-hand 3G modem with a SIM card for a customer and it took one visit to CellC (Cavendish, Claremont), plus presenting the documents, to sort it out. The SIM is now RICA'd in her name, so she can buy and load airtime

Sounds like you have been speaking to some ignorant person who cannot be bothered to find things out

Surely they just update the rica details to the new owner?
If they werent able to do it there would be a problem with recycling old numbers.

Little bit OT, is there a way to check what numbers have been RICA'd under a persons name? Just curious.

EDIT: 1000 posts, whohoooooo!!!

Well done on the 1000 milestone

Nope it isn't possible.

The whole process was flawed from the get go.

Thank you for your kind words :)

A few months ago I cut up an expired pre-paid SIM. But I just wondered now, what happens when the number is recycled...

AFAIK the suppliers monitor the presence of numbers and if they have not appeared for a period (I think it is 3 years) then they go into the Recycle Bin. I tried to use an old SIM (must have been 6 years old) and 2 phones would not even recognise it

Yip. They recycle those numbers after a certain period of time.

Just to give a bit of an update to help people that also would like to follow the same process.

I mailed my request with several necessary documents to Cell_C on this forum this morning early. I just got an sms from Cell C saying I put in a request to port my number, and then straight after an sms from Vodacom saying my number port request has been approved. :D

So lets hope the rest of the process goes smooth. :)
