Hi All, my first post so not too sure how to structure it.

My daughters phone got stolen last month, we followed the chain, blacklist the number and the phone all went well, go report it at the police station, all went well. Then put a claim in via my insurance, this is where the problem now lies.
My daughter has had that specific number for a years, I then gave her my contract number, and subsequently forgot about the other number, which has now been deactivated due to inactivity.

The problem now lies in that I did not register that number with Rica, and it wasn't anyone from my side of the family. It could possibly have been someone from her fathers side of the family. Now my insurance is asking me for the details of who rica'd that sim card, but I cannot give then that information and they will not divulge the name of that person. I have asked her father, I have gone into a Vodacom store I even went as far as Vodacom Head office the CEO's secretary, because the call center always puts you through to a Bot, that is another discussion for another day. Now as much as I would love to provide my insurance with this information, if they won't give me the person's name I cannot help them. Now I am at a loss. I am a law abiding citizen of this country, but no one will assist me in sorting this matter out. I cannot do a sim swap as the number has been de-registered, and no one has been reassigned with that number. I am pulling my hair out, can someone suggest on how one obtains this information for my insurance? So I can get my daughter up and running again.

Tell your insurance to fvck off

You, I presume, insured the phone and you never insured the sim card. It has nothing to do with the loss.

FFS who is this insurer - I bet you are direct with them and I bet it's not a traditional trusted insurer.

Most insurers only require you to "blacklist" the device with the network operator and you need a case number from your local SAPS.

The question of RICA has nothing to do with the device. If Vodacom can confirm the number in question was in the device then you are golden

It is only if your insurance is through Vodacom that the device MUST be used with the sim that the insurance is being billed to. And yes, they can see if another sim was used in the phone.

If your insurance is through your household insurance then it should not matter. It is the IMEI number that they should care about and that you blacklisted the phone, have the ITC number for the blacklisting and also a police case number...which by the way, the police ask for the ITC number before they open the case number for those that have not been through this process.
