makes sense to me, the rich always cry when they have to pay more than the poor

society is sick that way

The rich already pay more. Like someone else said: tax.

This country is so dependent on a very small minority that pay the majority of tax. Keep up with schemes like this to fleece them even further and they will just up and leave for greener pastures and then SA will have quite a budget crisis to go with their power crisis.

Excuse me? Are you saying base prices on % salary? Milk 1%, tv license at 20%, petrol at 1% per litre?

What incentive would I have to do better at my job? High stressed, high risk job with long hours vs counting boxes for an hour a day - get equal pay at the end of month?

How do you classify rich? By what you earn per month? Because I know plenty people who are asset rich with major debts. Their net monthly is probably that of a minimum wage worker - seriously.

Besides, because someone earns more money than another, it doesnt give the poorer of the two the right to have the richer guy subsidize his living. If you cant afford a tv license, then you certainly shouldnt have a tv in the 1st place.

I work hard for my money and I aint giving more of it away to anyone - fk em - dont buy a tv if you cant afford the license.

This is how the UK and US became a nation of citizens that live purely off the governments, subsidized by those who actually choose to work.
 
I pay about R6000 a year for my DSTV PVR subscription but wouldn't pay the poxy R300 to SABC. Why? Because they have zero content that interests me. Duncan's dim-witted comments are typical of an enterprise when it is state-controlled. You get bugger-all for your money, but they think they can just increase their prices at any time. Improve the content, remove the propaganda, dearie, and we can talk about it.
 
all im saying is it fair that some black oke earning 700 bucks a month doing gardens 4 times a week should pay the same for his tv license than some oke taking home 50k

yea i also think that the poor should get milk and bread cheaper, the basic needs to live should be cheaper for some poor oke earning minimum wage

if some oke is earning 50k a month and cannot afford to pay extra for milk bread basically the essentials then thats why the poor will be always poor because the rich want everything for the same price as some poor oke struggling

i dunno maybe its just me who feels sorry for oke who earns minimum wage when i go to teasers and sometimes blow his salary in one night

But this is simply illogical nonsensical nonsense. On this basis everything must cost more for the rich than for the poor.

Can you just imagine the bureaucracy required here? Someone who is poor doesnt submit tax forms so how do they judge?
Someone who is wealthy goes bankrupt - then has to fill in a mass of forms to reduce his tv licence?

If you can't afford it you don't get it.

Actually I want a 8800gt graphics card - my rich friend bought one for around R3500. I should only have to pay R 650.00 - is that ok ?

Graphics card, TV, car, it's the principle of the thing.

The poor don't even get to pay less for bread and maize so why are we contemplating reducing tv licence costs ?

dstv is luxury item yes, but your basic kuk sabc should be available to everyone because believe it or not even the poor get bored and would like to watch something even its kuk

The poor do not own nearly as many electronic devices as the rich do, so they do, in fact, pay less. Same goes for water, since they don't have a huge garden to water, they do pay less. :rolleyes:

It's all about living within your means.

hahahah i see your point, but the rich can afford the garden, they can afford the devices why can they not afford to pay SLIGHTLY MORE on certain items considering they have a huge house with tv's microwave dstv luxury cars expensive computer

i think u need to look at the way poor ppl live and the way rich ppl live

if you think the way poor ppl live if fine then yes your arugement is spot on

personally i feel sorry for the way the poor live, the way they struggle, the jobs they do for next to nothing

it takes a cold person to think the poor should pay the same price on everything

when i look at my house, my car my dstv dish my adsl connection, the way i can go into a shop and buy just about anything for dinner etc and i look at poor ppl who have a menu of pap pap and more pap everyday i do feel sorry for them

If you care that much then you are welcome to donate to a charity or buy food for these people yourself. Personally, I dont want to live in a communist society thanks very much! I want to be able to reap the rewards of my work. I pay my tax, my company pays its tax and if the government cant utilize this money to alleviate the poverty problem then those poor people should stop voting them back into power.

Yes I do care about the poor as well, how can you not in SA? They affect every aspect of everyone's lives. I will help out when and where I can additional to my tax and VAT, on my terms! But paying SABC extra bucks every month for a service I NEVER use is bollocks. In affect I would then be forced to pay for someone elses tv subscription.
 
yup stealth i do help the poor

i support meals on wheels every month for 110 bucks, not alot of money but if every person who could afford 110 bucks a month called meals on wheels it would help, but even the rich or ppl who can dont support them because they think 110 bucks is going to effect their lives instead o thinking it might make someone;s better

im not saying im a hero but i do feel better knowing i fed someone for a month or whateva

i do agree that government should be doing more for the poor but they are not, i just wish the poor would vote a decent goevernment in that cared about them
