Hi

I’m looking to replace my intercom with a ring wired doorbell.

From the ring installation it seems like there is a step down transformer needed. I have a commax video intercom/doorbell. Will the existing wiring work?

Model numbers for commax & ring units?

Add weblinks if you have.

Standard doorbell system, with 8-24 VAC, 40VA max, 50/60Hz or 24VDC, 0.5A, 12W.

Most commax units seem to be 12VDC but can only confirm with model details.

Yes this one

Just post your current transformer's specs. 12v over 500ma will be fine.
That's the issue. I don't know what my current specs are.

The electrician wired the intercom into the wall when he installed it so there isn't a power plus into a wall socket

Brain fart. You need to remove the Commax as there is an internal power supply supplying power to the door unit. So you need to supply to the door directly as there is only the door camera unit from the closest plug point or remove Commax unit inside, use plug point for power supply and use existing wire to door camera to supply power. Another option is a 12v supply directly in your DB box if it is close else a cheap wall wart plug and extend to the door camera.
