RIP Kulula

Why not let Uber have a go? Take a few random drivers, put them in the cockpit, spray a scent of stale sweat and old Nando's in the plane to mimic a typical experience and off you go?

With Kulula/BA out of the game there's surely a gap for someone to fill. Whether one of the local guys ramp up or a foreign player steps in I think it'll prove too tempting to pass over.
Flysafair is already in the process of acquiring additional aircraft.

but you can’t disrespect your customers by being chronically late and unreliable for years and years while your biggest and hungriest competitor is laser-focussed on predictable on-time performance which makes for a seamless travel experience.
+1 here
Unironically my only delayed flight in the last few years was a BA flight - 4hours

maybe Easyjet africa or Ryanair could start operations locally?

I still cant understand how this all went so wrong, so quickly.
or like Nationwide before it, once the CAA suspends even temporarily, a Transport certificate, Banks and lenders run for the hills?

and a Airline is unable to get back from a knockout like that.

Kulula and BA were great till around 2018 then a few issues started popping up and flight were often delayed. They also had the maintenance and safety issues and after Covid I think most airlines are hanging by a thread. Sad but as Richard Branson said If you want to be a Millionaire, start with a billion dollars and launch a new airline.
Around the time that Eric Venter left, things started feeling "off". Used them plenty of times between 2009-2016.

Bus w*nkers!

(anyone who'd already bought a ticket)
A man of class I see...
Sell it at a knock down price to Ryanair.:notworthy::popcorn:
I think Michael O'Leary could have actually set them on the right path. He is an arse but he knows how to get things done and run a LCC:thumbsup:
But recently they did have something that 1Time had: the same CEO.
Jokes aside, your points make sense. In theory they had what they needed to continue to be a success, but you can’t disrespect your customers by being chronically late and unreliable for years and years while your biggest and hungriest competitor is laser-focussed on predictable on-time performance which makes for a seamless travel experience.
Not that I am the most prolific domestic traveller in SA but for many years now I have chosen to pay slightly more to avoid Kulula in particular (and BA generally) unless it was unavoidable. The last time I flew Kulula was in March out of necessity when they were grounded (which they handled appallingly) and I’m still waiting for that refund…
Indeed the same guy. Not sure if things were already pretty bad when Glenn Orsmond took over but he has his name now connected to a failed Comair and a failed 1Time.

Ek sal my plaaslike aardrykskunde kennis moet opskerp voor hulle die plaaslike mark betree. Beslis aandag skenk aan die nuanses tussen hoogste berge, pieke en plekke
I'll just say I'm Not South African, tell them Im a Foreigner, wont have to write in a language I cant understand.

Its hard to keep a private airline going. Guess what's less hard to keep going... (hint: it sucks money like a vacuum cleaner and has more airline staff than airlines triple its size)...

I shall my farm-like earth-riches-art knowledge must sharpen before they the farm-like market join. Indeed attention gift to the nuances between highest mountains, peaks and places

Over 1 000 workers’ jobs are now hanging in the balance. The National Union of Metal Workers (Numsa) is set to meet on Thursday to map a way forward.

Lol...
NUMSA...

Problem is foreigners can't own more than 25% of a local airline.

The odds are stacked against them with the fruity airline and Send Another Aircraft (SAA) not wound up yet either.

Comair had 19 aircraft on their books at the time of ceasing ops, even with Safair getting 6 B737-800's and Airlink some more Embraer's there's still a large capacity gap.

Only options now are Lift, Safair, Airlink or Cemair. I won't support SAA on principle.
