RIP Kulula

But recently they did have something that 1Time had: the same CEO.
Jokes aside, your points make sense. In theory they had what they needed to continue to be a success, but you can’t disrespect your customers by being chronically late and unreliable for years and years while your biggest and hungriest competitor is laser-focussed on predictable on-time performance which makes for a seamless travel experience.
Not that I am the most prolific domestic traveller in SA but for many years now I have chosen to pay slightly more to avoid Kulula in particular (and BA generally) unless it was unavoidable. The last time I flew Kulula was in March out of necessity when they were grounded (which they handled appallingly) and I’m still waiting for that refund…
This. It reached the point where I simply refused to fly Kulula or Comair - I'd rather take a flight scheduled for a later departure time that actually left and arrived on time.

I see on the latest media statement it says people with bookings will become creditors.
Seeing they lodging for liquidation, I suspect we will only get 10c on the rand if we lucky, on our R4500 bookings we look forward to getting back R450. Cost me now R4k to rebook on FlySafair.

3rd time in 2 years I've been shafted by Kulula, I still said when making the booking to my wife they'll be fine Covid lockdowns are over. F............k

Fuel prices were the straw that broke the camel's back.

Running an airline is a tough business, especially when you're essentially competing with the state.

As long as politicians and their friends want free business class tickets to god knows where, SAA will refuse to die.

Anything to do with an SOE in this country will likely be technically insolvent within 5 years.

maybe Easyjet africa or Ryanair could start operations locally?

Not a snowballs chance in hell, they would have to give the majority of the company over to locals and their cost control to ensure profits means there is no spare cash rolling around to make "bonus payments" to local "investors" or government officials.

If I am not mistaken ....... is there not an issue with fuel for local flights in SA at the moment too?

Kulula cannot be rescued

Kulula has been unable to raise the funding required for the company to continue with its operations, and as a result, it is beyond rescue.

"Regrettably, the requisite funding could not be raised in order for the company to continue with its operations," the company said in a statement.
This is sad. Yet we have billions wasted on a government airline which will always be a failure.

This is bullsh*t beyond measure. For a lot of people, R2,500 is not a great deal of money but for me, it is a massive chunk of change. Now I am only going to get 10% of that back? Where does the rest go?

I agree I was just making a guess on the 10c figure. Could be more could be less.

It is the basic liquidation process, if they owe for example R100 to creditors but if the assets are only worth R50 then creditors get 50% back, if the assets are worth more we get more after liquidating the assets, if their assets are worth more then they can pay out more.

Good article here on when creditors are paid :

As far as I understand would be unsecured creditors, thank goodness we are not shareholders.

Ah well.
I suppose that's put paid to any hope of a refund for our August tickets bought and paid in March.
Disappointed in Comair. They'd built up a good reputation since they started ops in the late 1940s. After weathering so many storms, apparently the new management just didn't have the verve and nous to make a go of things.

If you bought via credit card, start the chargeback process via your bank.

Apparently, those who bought during that sale will be refunded this week.
"Comair has struck a deal with Airlink to help out stranded British Airways passengers with new flights on certain dates, while those who booked tickets during a kulula.com sale announced shortly before flights were suspended, will be refunded."
