Roaches???

You're thinking of cows.

No ... I know about the cows ... but there was actually research saying that the excessive breeding of cockroaches posed a problem since they pass greenhouse gases.

There was actually a thread about this a while ago ... I'll look it up and post it here when I find it ...

2 of the large flying roaches and suddenly you want to kill all the insects in your house?
Damn.

I think you live in KZN, we have had one of them flying roaches come visit us twice in two nights, it's now sitting in a jar on the balcony.

But, fumigation is not all it's cracked up to be, be careful.
For example: Killing all the black ants living there will make life much easier for the termites who want to infest your wooden roof support structure. How many geko's do you think you'll wipe out in the process?

I've got some roaches in the outside drain - they keep coming out at night. I've tried dooming but to no avail. What can I throw down the drain? Was thinking of napalm :)

I've been on holiday for about a month and only got back home about 4 days ago. Problem is i killed 2 hugh cockroaches since i've been back. I never had this problem before (only staying in the house about 6 months so far). The roaches are about 5cm in length.

Could this roaches be wondering inside after the rains or do i have a more serious problem on hand?

And does one get something that you plug into a wall socket that removes or kills the buggers?

Any advice would be great.

// skin starts crawling spins around starts running!!!!!

They like clean houses too.

Never had them in Pretoria, but down at the coast we had plenty and used Di Roach which worked. You have to remove all the stuff from the cupboards and spray the inside and close the doors overnight.

hi

Cockroaches are attracted to open food (can even squeeze into your fridge) and will even eat paper.

There's pretty much nowhere to hide from them in central Cape Town. You fumigate your house and kill every single living thing in it. A few months later your neighbour's roaches move in with you...

Best deterrent in my experience: crushed bay leaves. Apparently they can't stand the smell and I haven't had any problems since using these.

afaik, those bigger buggers fly in from outside, doubt you have a problem. Best to find out for sure, is to go into your kitchen in the middle of night (when whole household has gone to bed loooong time aog) and switch on the light. If you see roaches running, you have a problem.

our roach prob was bad (as libs mentioned). we bought cans and cans and cans of doom etc, but it didn't help. we fogged th ewhole house, but all that happened was that it gave me a whole house full of stinky curtains, bedding and clothes. took me a while to get everything washed and the house smelling "normal" again.

eventually we ripped out all the kitchen cupbaords and tiles. found huge breeding grounds behind it. (tiles and cupboards waas a diy job by previous owner). and then we got rentokil out. they sprayed and came back for a follow-up 6 weeks later. the first poison they used was a fast acting killer thing. the second was a long lasting poison. We have never seen another roach, and it was worth the R800-odd.

We found them coming up from the sewer drains into the house so a call to council has them coming out for free and dropping industrial strength only god-knows-what down the manholes. Problem solved for a few months.

until the next batch come out ..... all nicely mutated and immune to whatever industrial strength only god-knows-what that the council used, hehe :D

Absolutely true. However the boys from council, street smart as they are from working the streets, simply double the dose of only-god-knows-what.
The doses have increased exponetically over a 7 year time frame. They started with a bucket per manhole, they now dump several buckets of only-god-knows-what down the same manhole and for good measure they throw in something that billows smoke too.

 glad I don't live near those roaches (or whatever the hell they must be by now) ..... run for them thar hills laddie 'fore the roach-men gets ya :p

I have gone to the kitchen between 1am and 3am for the last few days and no roaches yet. I have spring cleaned and haven't come across any others. So i guess they where just wondering into the house from outside.

Thanx for all your helpful replies, i will stock up on the bay leaves and fogger doom just in case.

Never mind the roaches........

I must be lucky, I don't have any roaches, but I've got a bunch of crickets, ants everywhere and these ugly monster bugs I think it is anteaters or something outside in my lawn that makes a very high pitched and continious noise. I live in a townhouse complex with walls that act as a speakerbox, which means these bugs make such a noise I can bearly get any shut-eye. A friend of mine suggested to me to pour soap water on the lawn and wait for these monsters to crawl out. I've been doing it and it works. I would like to know from you clever people, what is this bug called? It is brown with wings, about 5 to 6cm long looks like a huge ant but only the shape, it's got a soft body. It's got huge mandibles and scary looking front legs.

Wondering? LOL. Intelligent bugs?

If you're very lucky you have an infestation of Parktown Prawns. The good news is that they help dispose of the dog turds
