Johannesburg - In Cape Town it might be "Hey bru!" and in Bloemfontein a mild "Jislaaik!", but Jozi has the most-brutal road rage, and young white men are the worst, say Research Surveys.
In its latest poll of trends in the past year, it found that nearly one in three South Africans was the target of road rage, or "threatening actions" by other road users.
"We are a violent society," said Research Surveys.
"And the likelihood that you'll be a target of road rage is twice as high in the metropolitan areas, as the rural ones."
Major differences
Two years ago, an international survey found that road rage was worse in South Africa than in any of the 11 other countries studied.
But, the survey in 1995 found that 11% had experienced road rage from others, whereas the latest figure was appreciably higher at 32%.
In the cities, two out of every five South African road users were targets, at 42%, compared with 30% in towns and 22% in rural districts.
"But, there are major differences between the cities."
