So i'm thinking of doing a road trip. I want to do it over 2 days from Friday and the total distance should be around 1000km round trip.
I am leaning towards the Limpopo and Mpumalanga. I have been to Hazyview in the past so no point going that way.
Do you have any recommendations of places to stay or different routes to go?

Reason for trip ? There's a couple of roads around the Hazyview area that's awesome for a speedster. (Going that way October).
Limpopo.... Mmm..... Couple of beautiful scenic routes. George's valley, Magoebaskloof.

Thanks will check those. Main reason is i got a new car a few months ago but never got the opportunity to do a long drive. The other one is for my wedding anniversary.

Jhb - Tzaneen - Hoedspruit - Hazyview - Jhb. Just 34km over 1000km.

Sounds great. Sleepover places..... i'll look at Magoebaskloof area, then around Graskop/Sabie, then back home.
Pending on how much you want to spend, i've been to an awesome place just outside Hazyview a month ago.

Funny enough i had the same route on Google Maps. I think i will do that. Do you know any accomodation in Tzaneen that you would recommend? Hazyview has a lot of good ones but wasn't sure about Tzaneen

Have a look on Lekkerslaap - Magoebaskloof. There's beautiful places.

2 days, thats not a road-trip, that is a normal commute to work from PTA to JHB and back..
ah well, i know its not a proper road trip but i don't have time/money for a long one so will have to squeeze it in 2 days.

Thanks, will check and let you know what i choose.

When I had my black STi I used to get lost every weekend. Rustenburg way usually yielded good times. Used to be nice guest houses and things out that way. not sure now.

Road surface is a bit better now.

Enjoy. Should plan something like this myself - Just need the passenger seat to be filled
:D:D so i have my trip finalised now.
Will leave Joburg Friday afternoon and sleep at Sabie Star Chalets. I will then look for activities nearby and heard to George's Valley for the night. Will look for activities and then heard back to Joburg. The total trip should cost me about R5000 including activities and fuel. I hope for a great drive...

edit:
do you know of any activities that i can do, bearing in mind that i have a 3.5 year old son?

You know the Gorge in Graskop where they bungy ? There's a lift now taking you down into the gorge. Well worth it.

I went to high school in the Magoebaskloof area - great place for a drive and weekend. Have a look at airbnb for places to stay

i found one in George's Valley. Very excited about this trip since i planned it all by myself. Usually my wife does the planning for these things. The Mpumalanga side of the trip is covered in terms of activities, i'm left with the Limpopo side, i guess driving will be the main activity.
