Roadblock and speed trap warnings using tech

this should be illegal

which? roadblocks, or the reporting of roadblocks?

I think it's great that the police is stepping their efforts up to catch drunk drivers and the such, but deplores the fact that people will use technology to bypass roadblocks and the such.

If you obey the law why would you need warning against roadblocks and camera's? I hate drunk drivers and more so those morons who speed on the roads.

Trust me it is very difficult to keep to the right speed limit on the N3 to Durban. I do my utmost but occasionally slip up (the speed changes and you don't notice, etc, etC) - this eventually makes me a lot more unconcerned by the end because I feel there is nothing I can do to stop me getting fines then I might as speed because it makes not difference.

Things should be made simple - if you had one drink, and you are caught driving, your license should be suspended for life and your car confiscated...

So then the camera POI's on the Garmin are also illegal? I think thats stretching things. Fixed camera's don't reduce speeding. Everyone knows where they are anyway.

reporting of roadblocks.

isn't this service illegal though? i'm sure it is!

Here go the all mighty again who never speed, always come to a complete stop at stop streets, and never run an orange light

Roadblocks are more of an annoyance than anything else.

They are more like an ATM for metro's and the bad guys end up getting away anyway.

I use my GPS to "remind" me to keep to the speed limit, esp at places where they have funny speed limits or it changes quickly.

Exactly - an ex work colleague used to get pulled over at Monte Casino every Friday, it cost him R50 to get through for having one too many (every Friday).

I don't see why it would be illegal. You can't stop people from talking to each other.

If you follow that line of thinking, they'd have to arrest/fine everybody who phones a friend to say there's a roadblock here, slow down.

Or like the time I was waiting for the oncoming traffic to pass so that I can turn into the road, but because the road I was on was downhill when I took my foot off the brake, the car rolled forward a few inches. The cop ignores a guy travelling at a helluva speed (too fast to stop,) then pulls me over (easier target,) to try extort a bribe from me saying "not stopping at a stop street is very expensive" (bull, I did stop, I just happen to roll forward while waiting for the speedster to pass.) So when pressed for evidence of the R750-00 price of the offence (R500 was the bribe price) he and his colleague both consult their books (I saw them in the rear-view mirror stop on a page and compare notes, then scratching their heads they hide their books,) then he apologetically said "today is your lucky day, we can't find it in the book, don't do this again." Ja right, they found it well enough, and it said a figure much less, probably R150 or so.

Because JMPD is inconsiderate and chooses the most inopportune moments to set them up - either in the mornings when people are on their way to work or in the afternoons when people leave work.

I have no problems with roadblocks otherwise.

Late at night when I'm too drunk to stop and I really need to get home for a pee? :D;)
