Was not asked, if I was I would have referred the census worker to the CFR.

It's easy - we don't have an intercom so we don't get bothered by the uninvited. If you know us, you'll have our number.

And we did the RICA thing so if the government really is serious about counting stuff they can look up a cell number and call to make an appointment.

Since this all started I have been wondering why there is not a way to complete the census in my own time or by appointment and if there is and I am not aware of it clearly there has been a communication failure.

Ask for for questionaire to fill in. They have a leaflet on how to complete. Arrange for collection of completed form.

No need for access to property.

I think that the publicity is aimed mainly at the greater population not used to written communication. Unfortunately it has backfired as the more educated community has taken umbrage.

For some reason all the people I have heard protest race identity are white. Why is this? They phone into radio shows and claim they have been told not to (or won't) answer the race classification question even when the statistician general says they must.

For the same reason non-whites protested race identity pre-1994, albeit less severe.

In South Africa it does... in other countries it is just a nice detail to demographics, but here it gets abused . I am also interested in how many of what race live in this country.

Amongst other things, they would like to guage and determine how the spread of haves and have nots have changed since 1994. They might also use the info to match with your tax returns to see if the income you declare fits with your lifestyle. But most obvious it will be used to get demographics numbers and linking them to services, quality of living etc. And those stats are interesting, but only if it is filled in accurately and not manipulated. I would never complete it with pencil though, that is just rediculous, and I cant believe they even have pencil as an option.
