Robot helps with remote control woes

Wonder how well it'll work with Western accents? And noisy environments like TV rooms?

We've done a lot of work on Voice Recognition and Voice-Based remote controls and it works well, IF you have a mic in front of your mouth AND you don't have a heavy accent. Even a cold will throw the systems.

But if you have this sorted, controlling your TV and other appliances works extremely well. We have a number of paralysed people using these systems as their primary interface.

I use one in my own place (but not with a lapel mic) and it's quite funny when it repeats what it thinks you said. After the 10th attempt it get horribly confused with all the swearwords :)

Something like:

'Turn TV on'
'Turn TV on'
"T u r n T V o n"
"Turn the f%$^*^ TV ON!!!"

*reach for remote and turn TV on*

But we've got users who wear the lapel mics and train Dragon or Vista (best 2 systems we've found) and get a 99.9% accuracy.

When it works, it's amazing, they're faster on the screen than I am with a keyboard and mouse. One day we'll all use VR.
