AFAIK Microsoft doesn't make laptops ...

AFAIK I think Apple machines can run Windows.

APPLE HAS DECIDED that sticking together bits of plastic and metal to make computer casings is out. The new way to do it, according to the company that took the first personal computer to market, is to carve the case out of a solid block of aluminium using lasers and high-pressure water.

This doesn't sound too Green to me. Does it use more energy?

blah...mac can keep their proprietary software, but must admit they have the hardware down to a fine art. I'll probably end up buying one just to end up putting either Gentoo or Ubuntu on it. But until then my Dell XPS acompanied by an brand new eeepc is doing an okay job on the mobile side of computing :)

Cause it is not really that important or useful in everyday life. The same reason why very little people buy PC cases with an aquarium in die side panel. Sure it exists and it is fancy, but you don't really need it - better of with a cheap beige case.

Remember, windows is used by millions of people to get jobs done. For Sunday drivers and people that can spend time not achieving anything there are fancy toys like this.

Its the difference between your boring everyday sedan and a handcrafted Pigani Zonda.

Apple Mac's are pretty .... Pretty useless :P

Sorry just not an apple Fan... Name 1 thing Windows can do that Mac can't you say....

DOUBLE CLICK!

There are also many things a windows can do better than mac. To name a few:

- crash all the time
- take forever to install apps
- pick up viruses like a prostitute
- run very slowly

I was always a Windows fan but recently got a mac. Will never go back to Windows.

Strange - I do not have any of those issues with Windows...

I guess the point you are trying to make is that the mac, just like my sharp elsimate scientific calculator that I used in high school, has a very limited range of applications and therefor less surface for things to go wrong ?

:) That would imply that you need a multitude of apps to be installed on a Windoze system before things go wrong :) and we know that's not the case.

Microsoft is just a peddler of junk software.

I use both and for general stuff Windows is good enough but if you want to run a high end video editing package or do some hardcore photo editing, a Mac beats with the superbly stable OS X and the best choice of productivity software available.

LOL, of course a Mac can double click. You can even plug in a two button MS mouse, duh :). Right click? Yes. Double click? Yes. Alt-Tab? Yes.

Plus there are Spaces.

Which Mac OS X also has. You get EVERYTHING you have in Windoze plus extra
(minus the viruses, malware, poorly written apps and drivers and a hell of computer manufacturer installed garbage-ware you get with each new fresh install of Windows).

LOL. When you first buy a machine with Windows on it you have to:

Either format and install Linux OR
format and re-install Windows (if you even can because most Win Laptops
come with Windoze image Recovery CDs not full versions of OEM Windoze).

Anyhow, once you get your Windoze PC, you discover that it's ridden with
loads of trialware that the manufacturer includes, heck even Windoze itself included a trial of MSN ISP back in the day of Win9x.

Once you unistall the 7 day trial of Norton Antivirus and the half-baked CD/DVD burning package (which prompts for upgrades to a PRO version constantly) you find that you need a
1. Good firewall.
2. Antivirus.

So you need to get out that credit card and ka-ching! Of course you could
trust Windoze firewall too -it's not that bad but you need a AV package. So you must BUY!

Most users will not do this. They won't enable their firewall, or just disable the Vista UAC which bugs them senselessly or work without an AV package.

You may say that Windows has a great variety of software.
Well what is it that most people use?

An Email program?
Well Windows has Outlook Express - Mac has Mail.

A movie creation package?
Windows has Movie Maker - ugh!!! While Mac has iMovie.

A word processor?
Windows has Notepad/WordPad - Mac has TextEdit.
Can you do spelling or grammar checks in WordPad? No.
Can you do them in TextEdit? YES.

A dictionary - to look up meanings or words and a thesaurus?
Windows - No.
Mac OSX - YES.

DVD player software.
Windows - No.
Mac OSX - YES.

DVD burning package.
Windows - No unless the manufacter gives you an LE version of Nero.
Mac - Yes. iDVD.

Music composing package for amateurs.
Windows - No.
Mac - Garageband with included loyalty-free loops.

Browser?
Windows: Internet Exploder - the browser with the most security holes.
Mac - Safari - much safer than Exploder.

Ability to install alternative OS out of the box?
Windows - No.
Mac - Bootcamp Assistant.

Photo editing?
Windows - Paint?
Mac - iPhoto.

Photo cataloging system built in?
Windows - No.
Mac - Yes.

Productivity software....

Office Suite:
Windows:
Ms Office
OpenOffice

Mac:
Ms Office
OpenOffice
iWorks (includes a spreadsheet, presentation package and word processor) = cheaper than MS Office and compatible

DVD burning

Windows - Nero
Mac Osx - Roxio Toast

etc ...

Mac actually has a greater variety of software, you get Mac OSX versions
of expensive packages like Avid Media Composer and Adobe Creative Suite,
Mac Only apps - Aparture, Logic, Final Cut Studio and Shake.
And you can run any Windows app via Bootcamp or via Parallels/Fusion.

Mac just offers a much wider choice......

I said alt-tab at the idiot that claimed he needed two screens. With alt-tab you really do not need more than one screen seeing as your two eye balls move together and you have a very small focal point anyway. If you had a chameleon op which allows you to use your two eyes seperately then by all means get two screens.

The thing with computers is all they do is shunt about small electrical charges. The ability to that well is all dependent on your hardware. Windows is beter than all other operating systems on a lot of levels (and sucks in some) but you will be able to do everything on it that you can do on other computing devices like the sharp elsimate calculator and ComboX McDonalds AppleMcMeal.

The sharps 7-element segemented mono display will not be as good for video work but a PC running windows with good software you can do that and still have money left for your kinds university studies or a share elsimate calculator.

Funny you seemed to miss how much more expensive Adobe Pro software for video editing is vs Apple's Pro Apps. It's a misconception that Macs are more expensive, the initial extra investment in the H/W pays off when you spend less on BETTER software, not to mention not having to buy AV software and other security software each year. Oh and there is Vista Ultimate R3000 vs Mac OSX Leopard which is R1000.
