Roku 3 tips and discussions.

When I select a South African address it says:

Can't Ship to This Address

This may be because:

The following types of items can’t be shipped to buyers outside the U.S.: video games, toy and baby items, electronics, cameras and photo items, tools and hardware, kitchenware and housewares, sporting goods and outdoor equipment, software, and computers.Amazon may be restricted from shipping to your country or location due to manufacturer restrictions or warranty issues. There may be item-specific shipping restrictions, for example hazardous-materials restrictions. See the product detail page for information. You may have chosen an offer from a seller who doesn’t offer international shipping. Try looking for another seller.

Any idea how people managed to order the roku from them before?

On Amazon, search for "Roku 3" and then use the filter on the left to filter items that are "Amazon Global Eligible".

Speaking of the Roku 3,

Is it worth it to "upgrade" to the current version which, AFAIK, includes an voice search feature?

Thanks. Overall price ends up almost the same as takealot so will just go through them instead.

Not sure about Amazon but Takealot also supplies a US to SA adapter with theirs.

Mine came with a Roku branded SA 2 pin plug. Either way, as long as the thing works.

I'm sure it just depends on what country they source them from, that's all. At the moment it would appear they're coming from the U.S.

Strange, I just checked and the Roku 3 does not ship to SA, but the Roku 2 does. Both items sold by Amazon themselves.

That is new as both my ROKU 3's came from Amazon US last year.

What are the chances of Takealot arranging unofficial exclusive SA rights by getting Amazon to stop shipping here?

I know. I also bought my Roku 3 from Amazon and as it so happens I checked a few months ago and the Roku 3 was available for SA.

There used to be 2 options for Roku 3's on Amazon. One ships to sunny SA and the other one doesn't. I bought mine in Feb this year and it shipped right to my door step. I even got a small refund because customs turned out to be cheaper than Amazon anticipated. Thinking of getting rid of mine after owning it for about 3 months. Just don't use it as much as I thought, still undecided. Awesome little device though.

If you decide to "get rid of it", I would be willing to buy from you for a nice price.

A quick question - I currently have my HP N40L running as my Plex client connected directly to my router via Lan cable. I am looking to build a new PC to run as my Plex server but not connected via Lan and rather via WiFi. My question is will the Roku (connected via lan) still be able to play my files on the Plex server without any problems? Mostly stream 720p and 1080p files.

This will be my deciding factor between going mini-atx or full pc. The wifi signal is quite good in the room the server will sit.

In the words of Mike Smit - video should never stream over WIFI

I used to have my Roku's running on wifi but there was occasional buffer - especially with 1080 content. After running cable and plugging them into the LAN, I no longer experience buffering..

Yeah I agree and my Roku is connected directly to LAN. I am talking about my new Plex server, that will be connected via WiFi and the LAN connected Roku will connect to that for Plex content.

I wouldn't recommend it, but if there is no way to hard wire it there shouldn't be a problem if the wifi is stable and they're on the same subnet.

If you run into streaming issues though having a server on a wifi link is going to complicate your troubleshooting.

I'd make a plan to rather wire the server.

When it comes to media streaming especially 1080p, cable is your friend. Unless you talking Yify 1080p ( :p ) then maybe just maybe can you get away with wifi. I'd say you can have clients connect via wifi but your server needs the wire

Whether you stick the PLEX server on WIFI or the Roku, there is still a potential bandwidth bottleneck in the way
