Roku 3 tips and discussions.

It's easy - you just need to set up accounts for each - but time consuming because you need to reload all the apps each time.

My Roku3 just landed on my desk.

Can you set up multiple accounts? eg, my first choice would be UK for all the BBC/Sky etc stuff... but if I want hulu I need a US one?

Yeah unfortunately. You choose UK or USA and stick to that per device , unless you want to put up with daily factory resets to switch between US &UK. Personally I took the UK side as I find there is more free interesting stuff there. Don't have a HULU sub so that helped with decision making. The rest like Comedy Central I just Chromecast

Going to be an issue.

Case in point: I have my ROKU's both on an SA account - only received access to download Netflix when Netflix launched here

If I link a ROKU to my US ROKU account, I get access to HULU, Netflix and all but not UK stuff...

OK, way forward decided.
UK on the Roku3
Then when I get a 4k TV, Roku4 will come and be US.... :D

Absolutely - if you're using Unotelly just be sure to select the Roku Website setting for the region you want to register for prior to setting up the device.

Multiple accounts on one device?

Not simultaneously. If you were on a UK account, for example, and wanted to watch Hulu you'd need to reset the roku and activate it with your US account. Not something you'd want to do day in and day out because it reloads all the apps, each time.

I found the simplest way was just to have multiple Rokus - some set to US and the others to UK.

Where did you buy from? Takelot's price of R2900 seems heavy, while I can't find a Roku3 that will ship to SA from Amazon anymore. Both of mine came from Amazon 18 months ago.

Needing 1 for my pops

Came to R1700 with shipping and taxes. Took 8 days...

Next question: What is the cheaper Roku streaming stick missing compared to the ROKU3 - anyone know (besides the earphone jack in the remote)?

It's a lot slower and obviously the only interface it has is HDMI. The remote headphone jack too, but I actually prefer the feel of the cheaper remote to the one that came with my Roku 3.

So if I got s streaming stick for my dad so that he can use Netflix on his HDMI equipped tv, would his experience differ at compared to mine with my Roku 3 and Netflix?

If you are used to the roku3 a lot slower is very noticeable.

Maybe, the stick is a little slower, but how would he notice? Honestly, who cares if it is a little bit slower?

Yeah - the lighter remote is nice.

I have a stick. Netflix takes a few seconds longer to start, but then it's smooth sailing from there.
Also does Plex great.
Another difference is there's no gaming on the stick. Probably not a deal breaker for you father.

Thanks I'm also looking at getting the stick, as Unotelly isn't working with my ChromeCast.
