Roku 3 tips and discussions.

Hi

Before frying my Roku is this safe to plug into SA power system.

The old Roku 3 power adapters were only rated (by Roku) at 100-120V also but searching the exact model number reveals it was 100 - 240V. I cannot find any information on this specific model so I wouldn't risk it.

Easy enough to get a 12V 2A adapter though from any electronics store. You may even have one from an old router or something lying around, just depends if the connector is the same.

It's a Roku 4 adapter.
All the 12v 2a adapters I have in the house don't fit. The connector's are to fat.
I go to the stores tomorrow.

For what it's worth I bough a li ion trimmer from the US and the adapter was only rated for 100v. A few days a go I mistakenly plugged it into the wall socket in SA and it worked without a problem

A noob question, if creating a SA Roku account, can I access services like Netflix and Showmax? Where can I see what will be available on a SA Roku account?

There is no Showmax app for Roku as far as I know. I'm not sure actually about Netflix, I guess it should be - you can always just test it.

Don't have a Roku yet, basically want to find out if it will be worth getting one for a non tech savvy person, main uses will be Showmax, Netflix, Youtube streaming. Also does it have a normal internet browser and maybe Facebook app?
All this must be very straight forward, local account, local CC, no VPN or region trickery.

Not with an SA account. I don't think Roku even supports SA.

Showmax doesnt have a Roku app.

Guys, I need some help setting up Netflix on a Roku 3.
I have tried everything and cannot get this to work.
I have a Unotelly account, I have set DNS settings on my Linksys WAG320N modem router as specified on the Unotelly web page. I have deleted my account on Roku and then reinstalled it (using a new email address) together with factory resetting my Roku 3. I still cannot get any Netflix overseas shows on the Roku 3; only the SA version.
And yet, when using Unotelly dynamo any Netflix country change will show me that country's Netflix on my PlayStation and my PC, but will not change the Netflix SA I keep on getting on the Roku 3.
Hulu works fine on my Roku 3.
I am really getting the hell in with this and am prepared to pay a reasonable fee for somebody to come through (Bordeaux, Randburg) and successfully sort this out.
If you are interested, please PM me on mybroadband with your contact details and we can then take this further.
Many thanks

You need this: http://help.unotelly.com/support/solutions/articles/192836-why-do-i-need-to-block-public-dns

Thanks for the quick response, much appreciated. The above link you so kindly provided is exactly what I used to set up the DNS on my Linksys.
Also added static routes as per the link and pinged them to ensure they were entered correctly (ping tests failed, as they should of)
Have checked I have done this correctly about a dozen times. Still cant get it to work :(

You need to block 2 more addresses :
208.67.222.222
209.244.0.3

Let me know if it works.

Thanks for the response. I assume u talking about 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4? If so, yes, I have them blocked and confirmed this by pinging those addresses

understood, will input the other 2 as well. Once I have done this, saved, and rebooted the Linksys and my pc, do I now have to delete my Roku account, create a new account and reset the Roku 3 to factory settings again?

Yes, I had to do the same and after that it worked 100%.

EDIT : As Bwana says, try with just a reboot and then do the other stuff if it still does not work.

Nope, that shouldn't be necessary. Just reboot it.
