Hey Guys,

I bought a Roku player when I was in the US. I used it there so it has a US account and address. I would like to use it SA. What do I need to do? If I connect it to the internet here will it automatically see the SA ip address and block things like Netflix? What do I do? Do I need a VPN like unotelly?

Unotelly have this free (no CC details required) 40 day offer during the World Cup. You need to sign up and then enter the DNS settings shown below in your router. There are a few free DNS Proxy services that you could try after your Unotelly trial has expired but they do not offer multi region Netflix support like Unotelly (US only).

Primary DNS: 197.242.94.51
Secondary DNS: 197.189.212.164

Yes you definitely need something like Unotelly to continue using the Netflix & other US apps. Africa sucks hey :)

by entering the DNS setting into the router would it allow me to access US sites as well?
Also will I then not need to to change any settings on the roku?

You already setup the roku to connect to a US account etc so you should be golden. just throw unotelly in the mix and you're good to go.

no settings changes, just add the DNS to your router to enable for all devices. unotelly has an android app that I use to switch regions in netflix instantly :)

you do need to add dynamic DNS to your router (there usually is a free way to set it up) so it updates unotelly with the latest IP address, takes you 2 min to setup

Just remember to uncheck the Obtain DNS Automatically box on the DNS configuration page of your router when you enter the DNS addresses given above. You will also need to click on the Unotelly activation link in their Welcome e-mail. Try to browse a website such as www.cbs.com to check that everything is working correctly.

No you don't need this. You only needs if updating your Unotelly IP when your router resets is too much work.

Problem with entering it in your router is that it slows down your internet. If possible rather enter it into the device. If not I suppose your Router is the only way.

Roku doesn't allow to enter DNS settings on the device. Has to be done via router.

What are you smoking dude? Maybe the first dns resolve takes a fraction of a second longer, but it doesn't slow down your internet at all.

You were also wrong earlier about Netflix charging extra for HD and newer movies.

Please don't say things when you don't know what you're saying.

Well he's half right - they do charge $1 more per month for HD (with two screens)

Movie availability however remains the same.

The two stream plan is the standard plan. It's not extra for HD.

They introduced the 1 stream plan with only SD with the latest price increase.

It is a recent change but the fact is newcomers are technically paying more for HD so he wasn't incorrect about that ;)

Seriously?

Coz the DVD packages don't work in ZA. :)

But don't be a dick then please. I was making comment on what was said on Netflix when I signed up. If you want to assist then do, don't be a dick.

I wasn't. I kept quiet when you when made the first mistake.

Was only on the second when I said anything.

I have noticed an increase in my latency for gaming if I use the UNOtelly DNS on my Router when I do online gaming. You saying that is incorrect? I have set up the DNS now on all the devices seperately and no more latency increase. If he doesn;t use his internet for gaming I'm sure it should not be a problem. It does make a difference when you are gaming ;)

Anyway. clearly I'm not informed enough to assist here. You guys enjoy I suppose.
