I need some basic flashing assistance with Android, please. My Redmi 9 (bootloader unlocked, not rooted) is currently on Pixel Experience 12 Plus, viaPixel Experience Recovery. I tried to escape the abysmal notifications of MIUI - Pixel Experience is great but I'm experiencing bad battery drain on idle (apparently an issue with Google Play Services) that will have to wait for an update to be adressed, so I'm looking at other custom roms in the interim.

Seems that this entails installing a different recovery, eg TWRP, then flashing whichever rom I fancy. I can't figure out a couple of things, though:

1. Do I need to do the fastboot --disable-verity --disable-verification flash vbmeta vbmeta.img command, since I am already on a custom rom?

2. Any gotchas that I need to be aware of?

Usually, that would be in the guide of the TWRP flashing guide, I think? Best place to look, is in XDA forums. I have a Redmi 5, did none of those fastboot commands. YMMV

If you flashing via TWRP, you don't need to flash all those things.

Reboot boot TWRP.img. you will need to flash TWRP via CMD, and then once in TWRP, you will need to re flash the TWRP IMG, or else you will keep on having to boot in via command prompt

When in TWRP, you will just need to follow the install process for which ever ROM you want to flash. Some will need you to flash the stock firmware first, then the ROM, them gapps..Some roms have Gapps baked into them, so you will then only have to flash the ROM.

Note I said you don't need to flash DM Verity etc, but some Roms still need you to do this, again, it depends on what the ROM maintainer requires
