So I installed ubuntu 14.10 (unaware that root was locked) some weeks ago. Today I needed root access for a mount, thinking that I forgot the root password I re-installed Ubuntu with the keep documents option but there was no option to set the root password, so I re-installed from scratch hoping to set the root password. What a waste of time and a fair amount of idiocy. Found out since that it is possible to set root password using expert mode.
