Rosebank residents and businesses have been warned to stay away from the route ANC Youth League members will follow when marching through the area on Thursday.

“This will have several knock on effects in our ward as well as in the Johannesburg CBD (central business district), along the major north-south transport spine of Oxford/Rivonia Roads and then in the Sandton CBD,” ward councillor Tim Truluck said in a statement.

“It is suggested that businesses situated along the marching route consider sending their staff home early and not to schedule meetings in the afternoon that need to be attended by visitors.”

Truluck said the Johannesburg metro police had confirmed that Maude Street in Sandton, where a memorandum would be handed over, would be closed.

The “economic freedom youth mass action” is scheduled to take place on Thursday and Friday.

Marchers will move from Beyers Naude Square to the Chamber of Mines in Johannesburg, the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) in Sandton and Union Buildings in Pretoria.

On Monday, ANC Youth League president Julius Malema said he expected 5 000 people to take part in the march.

There would be 1000 youth league marshals, and 500 police and private security company members to ensure the march was peaceful.

"Occupy JHB" and he would gain support from the International Press.

Why are they fed up? They voted for their leaders and are now reaping their "rewards".

Exactly and they will keep on voting for them time and time again. The people have shown that they love to suffer. Until they stop enjoying it so much things will just continue as normal.

The masses are uneducated and they are mostly sheep...They just follow whoever has the loudest voice it seems. Much like the majority of the world. Everyone complains about their Government leaders but it was supposedly the majority that voted them in.

So I mean, what can we/they do?

The people they voted for are not doing anything for them so they result to marching/protesting. A practice that is not new, not uncommon and has been shown to work.

That's how I see it though, lets see what happens...

By breaking loose from their ANC shackles and realising that the "revolution" is over and that it is time to rebuild our country, regardless of which political party is in power. If a politician cannot keep his promises, vore for someone else.

I agree but the revolution is clearly not over for them when the majority of the population is living beyond poverty. You have to imagine being in their mood, they are not happy waking up with empty stomachs etc.

You have a point as well it is time to start looking to rebuilding but that is clearly easier said then done. With that said, who else can they vote for? They cannot vote for DA because they believe the white's would make things even worse(This is the general opinion whether people on MyBB want to accept the truth or not).

I have family members whould literally jump out of their seats when someone even dares to mention the DA.

So who-else do they vote for? Better the devil you...Well, you know the rest.

I have 2 "village elders" that work for me. Both relate to me that their folk are very disillusioned with the ANC. When I put it to them that this would probably result in a stay-away at the next election, they were pretty vocal in saying that they would be changing their vote... and not to COPE or the IFP.

I expressed my surprise to them, as the old Transkei is a traditional ANC stronghold but they were adamant. They used the example of the last local elections where the emphasis was on service delivery and not to vote from loyalty to the "struggle".

Interesting times ahead.
 
Wife was at Community Patrol Forum meeting just now.

Apparently Pretoria Rd and Waltloo/Watermeyer Rd will be closed. So we won't be able to go anywhere - boxed in!
