Not sure where to post this so just going to post it here.

Got a problem with y fibre router. It is the TP Link model that you get with your CISP sign up. Last week it wouldn't connect on fibre or LAN cable. I checked the router and see that the "internet" indication is lit but the WiFi one isn't and I get no throughput via copper either. Now I assume the thing is buggered as I couldn't even access it via the set up cable link or 192.168....

My issue then is that I went in the cupboard and dusted off my old 3420. It works (sort of). But only by cable. I can see and pick up the WiFi but it won't connect. Error, "cannot connect to this network". I tried forgetting the network but no dice. Laptop, TV or phone won't connect. The problem may be that the 3420 is an old router with an SSID that my equipment remembers but not the TV. But still I thought forget and reconnect would work.

So I' at the end of my tether here. Some assistance would be appreciated. I am worried I go off and get a new one only to find I still can't connect.

Have you tried firmware updates on either devices?

No.
The 3420 is rather old and as far as I remember it should be running the latest available firmware. Have not tried to update the CISP router. It would seem I can't access the admin panel so not even sure how I'd manage to update the thing even if I wanted to.

Right then more than likely dead how long have you had the router?

Have you tried changing the encryption type on the 3420? As this is usually a hardware supported thing.

I've had the router since around April 2018 so just over two years.

The 3420's encryption has always been WPA2 when I used mobile data. Not sure why it'd matter that now my internet is wired.

and oh, thanks for your help with this thus far

Yeah so router would be out of warranty, we can sell and deliver you a new one if you like?

But I would check for firmware on the 3420 as well.

Thanks for the offer but if I must replace it I'd like to get something that improves on the limited wifi range of the vanilla "free" one. Speaking of which, will you guys want the old one back after this long?

In the meantime I'll try out my B315 over the weekend when I can get it back from a relative. Just want to use it to rule out some weird peculiarity with the installation.

What was the model of the one that failed? It's tricky because we wouldn't take back a router that isn't working.

Not sure of the model. I'm not home now but it looks like this.

Actually it's exactly that one. And as you can only that power light (internet and power) lights up.IMG-20200626-WA0005.jpg
