I have a Vumatel CPE linked to C-Fibre and was very happy with it until lightening blew out our CPE and router. On replacing the router..... I have come home with a TP-Link AC 750 but the Support Team at Cell C has suggested I take it back and either get the modem they supply at Cell C stores or the Huawei B315. Any words of wisdom?

Anything with an Ethernet wan port that supports dhcp client is fine.

As Sinbad says, any router (including the TP-Link AC 750) that has DHCP client and PPPOE will work fine for the fiber. If you are on Vumatel trenched then you would use DHCP, but if Vumatel Arial, then PPPOE.

However, the reason Cell C are recommending the B315 is because is also supports LTE. The TP-Link AC 750 will not provide you with failover to LTE if the fiber has a problem. If you need the failover, then you will need a different router.

if has a EWAN port it should work
you just have to make a minor config as mentioned by the other user
I have an archer D7 but I cant recall if I have switched DCHP off i think I did - I forgot the router password so i cant even check for you but I'm on metrofibre and I think they use PPPOE

Yeah we don’t plan on using LTE and so far Vumatel have been very quick with service when there are issues. I just think after doing some reading that the TP-Link AC 1750 will have far better range. They are happy for me to switch it out for the extra R1000. ☺️

Yes CPE was damaged but Vumatel replaced it the day after I reported it free of charge
