Struggling to find a router that can handle two WAN connections and properly fail-over in the event of an outage.

I'm thinking LTE + starlink or LTE + traditional satellite.

Would be first prize to be able to program the router to failover when the main connection is down and back when it's been up for at least a minute.

Does anyone know of something decent to do this?

I'm happy with a migration... any model suggestions? It doesn't need wifi. Thanks!

Or the newer

You can turn the Wi-Fi off

I got one of these years ago. Bit simpler to operate than a Mikro for the avg layman but the Mikro is more powerful/versatile.

Its also limited to 100Mbps ( well mine was at the time ) but it worked beautifully for failover or time based routing. I used to juggle Telkom LTE and RAIN uncapped evening. Pumped 400Gb's odd through it.

Still use it vs the provided isp Mikro as it handles fibre as well and If I ever need I can plug something for failover. Only device not mine on my network is my fibre ont.

Thanks, I'm looking at this:
Looks like good value with the CPU and RAM on board being way above most of the others. Also L6 RouterOS.

I find it super annoying that I can't get one of these: https://scoop.co.za/mikrotik-chatea...igabit-router-d53g-5hacd2hnd-tc-fg621-ea.html
Vodacom don't have it on their list of approved devices. No doubt neither does MTN or Telkom. Who do they sell them to?

Is there a reason you are concerned about approved devices? As long as the technology handling matches, it should be fine.

Lost interest in mikrotik a long time ago since they are top priority for getting exploited.

Is expensive for the physical device and scaled up for corporate but those Sophos XG devices/software is pretty decent IMO. If you have a old pc with at least 3 ethernet adapters you can download the free version of the xg appliance. Sd WAN profiles uses a SLA to failover which can automatically fail over on terrible connections etc... They’re also pretty neat web filters and can connect with AD for authenticated web access allowing you to control who accesses what.

They lost me when they overcomplicated a simple task.

I've been in networking for a few decades and even I got annoyed with simple things taking ages to set up. Preset configs are foreign to them.

Mikrotik or sophos xg?

Ja, I must admit, It's been a while since I've played with Mikrotik.
Crikey, doing something simple is so complex lol.
The default on my device is to have ether1 set up for WAN and ports 2-5 for LAN (I assume). I have it routing nicely with the LTE router on a different subnet connected to ether1. I'd like to connect the Satellite system to ether5 and configure it as the backup with distance=2 and ether1 distance=1.

RouterOS 7.8 is installed.
Any pointers on where to start with this webfig or terminal?
These articles aren't very helpful: https://scoop.co.za/blog/basic-isp-failover-with-mikrotik

In both cases, my gateway equipment (Huawei LTE router and Satellite router) have static IPs and receive dynamic IPs from the ISP.
