I'm sorry for posting this here. But seeing as I am not allowed to post yet in News and Current affairs, and that coupled with my absolute disgust with what happened to that poor nurse, I would take a 'ban' from my broadband, but I simply cannot keep quiet. Stupid forum rules in this case.

Nurses are some of the under appreciated members of our society. There are some bad apples, but most of them do this work because they actually LOVE helping people who are in need. It is actually a ****ty job. I would not want to deal with peoples's litteral and verbal **** each and every day. You get the people who think they are the only people in the world who need medical attention. Nurses have to suck this up and keep doing the best they can under extremely difficult circumstances.

Nurses are the real care-givers of your sick family in hospital. Doctors only visit now and again. Nurses are there constantly. Keeping an eye. Doing the real work which needs to be done every second.

ICU nurses are a special breed. My SO was one, unfortunately she passed away. She was the most special person I would probably ever know. The stories she told me about the difficult circumstances she had to deal with. But still. she wanted to help people. It was a passion with her.

Now these two stupid ****ERS in australia does a stupid prank which leads to a nurse's death. Disgusting.

Can you just imagine what this poor nurse had to go through. Do you think the hospital management would have 'lauged it off as a good prank". No for ****s sakes. It was the royal family. She must have gotten hell for it.

Visit the Radio Stations Facebook page and post your disgust.

Absolutely unforgivable!

I don't think the two journalists are directly responsible. I suspect the nurse had underlying depression or some other problem and this was the straw that broke the camel's back.

Dude. I don't think so. It is a serious breach of what they are taught about confidentiality. Being duped like this could be devastating to anyone. Remember, she didn't volunteer to take part in a joke. She was duped. It is a serious charge of misconduct against her. And it happened to be a member of the Royal Family too. The English practically worship the ground their royals walk on. So she must have been ridiculed by almost everyone she worked with. Do you think the UK Tabloids would not have placed her name and face everywhere they could.

It must be devastating when you think you help someone only to realize that everyone is laughing at you. She was not an anonymous person anymore.

Read the comments on these ass-holes Facebook page. The world thinks they crossed the line.

And the nerve of them to start posting RIP messages of other people who died. Even more repulsive of that radio station.

Why, because the are royalty. Royalty my ass. It happens to more important ppl everyday.
Still sad what happened to the nurse.

Personally I don't give a rats ass about the royals. But then again, I don't live in England.

If you work in a country with the worlds most known Royals live, and you are placed in a situation like this, it will most probably break you.

I like these quotes from others:

"A nurse is something we need, brain dead DJ's not so much!"

"I still don't understand why would you ever prank call a hospital (which is bad enough), and one which royal family members attend, and pose as the QUEEN OF ENGLAND. What could the nurse have done? Hang up on the queen? Ask the queen for ID? Or do as the queen says? The nurse was screwed the moment you called with this awful prank."

---

And these asses said they were sorry, but then went on to brag about it further!

The radio show apologized for the call Wednesday, saying it "was done with light-hearted intentions."

Its two DJs, Mel Greig and Michael Christian, continued to tweet about the call on Thursday and earlier Friday, promising "more on the #royalprank."

"In the immediate aftermath of the call, the DJs apologised for the prank but later took to Twitter to brag of their success - calling it the "easiest prank call ever made".

I don't think these online 'petitions' have ever worked.

Under normal circumstances I would agree with you. But this case is unique. It is getting world-wide coverage.
The radio stations Facebook page is being hammered.

And the idiots placed a lame apology, and 30 minutes later they placed a new cheery santa story. FAIL! Fortunately they removed the story a short while later after ever more **** hit the fan. (Initially they also deleted posts. Which in the modern age is an even bigger FAIL).

I don't see why everyone blames the DJs for this. If the nurse commited suicide because of this incident she's fekking stupid tio begin with..

How many nurses out of 50 you think would commit suicide over , what I think was a genius prank?

Nurses are under-appreciated and all, and I didn`t find the prank amusing, but it wasn`t malicious.

and the proof that she committed suicide because of the prank call is revealed where?

And anyone who thinks that the hospital didn't come down hard on this poor person is deluding themselves.

I'm sure everyone knows how 'spin' in media works. You use diplomatic speech to downplay something. So whenever something is officially acknowledged as being seen in a 'serious light', then you can be damn sure that internally there were major ructions.

And this poor nurse was the first one who let the call slip through. The second nurse could have said that "she though the first caller would have verified that it indeed was Her Majesty the Queen. So the blame would have been pushed down to Jacintha.

I quote from:
http://www.3aw.com.au/blogs/breakin...ot-water-over-royal-prank/20121206-2awkm.html

"The hospital released a statement yesterday saying the incident has sparked a review of their telephone protocol.

"King Edward VII's Hospital Sister Agnes can confirm that an Australian radio station made a hoax call to the hospital in the early hours of Tuesday morning," the statement said.

"This call was transferred through to a ward and a short conversation was held with one of the nursing staff. King Edward VII's Hospital deeply regrets this incident."

John Lofthouse, chief executive at King Edward VII's Hospital, said: "This was a foolish prank call that we all deplore. We take patient confidentiality extremely seriously and we are now reviewing our telephone protocols."

More comments:

"Not so funny now...tragic to Jacinath's family and the torment she must have felt to take her life. A tragedy that puts into question the ethics of what has transpired in the means to ratings. I am sure, it was not your intent for this sad outcome. Word equals world folks. Apologies are shallow! With sympathy to Jacintha's Family, The Royals, The Hospital, her colleagues she worked with and her patients......"

"Let's not judge the nurse for her actions either. She was obviously under great stress and whether or not her death was accidental or a cry for help that went horribly wrong, we need to remember there is a husband, children and family members involved in this."

Look. If you work in a situation where you need to be compassionate towards patients and their family, you are not going to be expecting someone to impersonate a member of the Royal family as that would be monumentally stupid and criminal to do. Impersonating someone to get information is a criminal offense as far as I'm aware. Now you work in this environment and one of the patients happen to be a member of the royal family. And you receive a call from someone who claims to be a member of the royal family, what are YOU going to think?

She must have been put under tremendous stress after this 'prank'.

Exactly! She didn't do anything wrong and the hospital supported her in this. Maybe she was just a weak individual, over sensitive etc. I'm sorry for her, but this is not the fault of the Aussies -- I think they showed extraordinary initiative which is quite rare for them

This is not the first time that station overstepped the mark I'm afraid.

"Until now, British readers would have been unaware of Sandilands' infamous lie detector stunt on the Kyle and Jackie O Show in which a young girl revealed on air that she had been raped.

The Mail detailed the incident, describing how the 14-year-old had been brought on to undergo a lie detector test in front of her mother."

i have just read on another forum that this poor woman was hounded by the media since the release of this prank call. damn idiots the 2 of them.

How were they to know this would have such dire effect on the poor nurse?
Blame the media if you wanna blame someone dammit

Yes. Exactly!
I'm not calling for the death of the two DJ's. But they do need to take responsibility for what they have done.

It reminds me of people who bully others and then follow-up with 'can't you take a joke'.

No one would make a prank call to a police station or a fire station and not expect repercussions.

She was a real person on the other end of the line. The DJ's had no knowledge of what situation she might have been going through in her life. But they put her into a false circumstance, it would have played havoc with her emotions afterwards.

I don't know what the law is in Australia, but here if you release a recording of someone without having informed them that you were recording it, would get one in huge trouble. And then broadcasting that recording too, even worse. I hope her family sues them to pieces.

I found this comment by another person also made a lot of sense.
"Clearly she over-reacted" means that you get to decide how much BS people should be willing to take from others before they do something drastic....? Since when did it become "okay" to denigrate people publicly ? This person reacted the way she did because she probably felt that she could not even show her face in public anymore. Not everyone is a Type-A personality who can take the BS that others dole out without hesitation."

I feel sorry for her husband and kids.

The DJ's didn't do this with the intent to cause harm. But they should have realized that this could have major consequences.
People should really take responsibility for their actions.

O, and for those of you who think I have lost my marbles, I can say this. This is not madness, what you are seeing here is PURE PASSION. Nurses are not appreciated for what they do. Registered Nurses studies for 3 years at a University, and then continue with further studies. Society looks on them as 'the help', when in fact, the doctors would not be able to function without them. They keep the patients alive.
