Royal Prank Nurse

I understand the anger but I don't believe for one moment that this was the main cause for her suicide.

She must have had other problems that caused severe depression and perhaps this just pushed her over the edge.

Does it matter? Surely a prank being enough to push her over the edge is enough reason for the anger.

She should have sought help for her problems before something as silly as a prank call pushed her over the edge.

I just don't see the big fuss over this and how people can blame the Ozzies for her death.

Oh come on! You don't see the fuss over a headline making prank call which then results in the suicide of the nurse who took the call?! Wow. I have seen far smaller things cause a far greater fuss (think Woolworths hiring policies, think Reitz initiation and I'm sure if I applied my mind to it I could come up with many more, including some international ones).

Each to his own I guess. This is a big fuss for you. Not for me!

And how are you comparing racial issues with a prank call? And no, the Woolworths thing did not bother me in the slightest. The Reitz thing was just stupid to begin with.

I agree each to their own but by stating that you cannot see the big fuss you seemed to imply that not only do you not think it is a big deal but cannot fathom why others think it is. Apologies if I misinterpreted you. The reason for bringing those other events up was because they too caused a fuss and had far smaller consequences for those involved.

And even you admitted that the prank call may have pushed her over the edge so I cannot fathom why you think the DJs shouldn't take some of the blame.

The reason I am making a "big fuss" out of it is that I think there are too many situations in the world where people do not take responsibility for the consequences of their actions. Yes, you could argue that they could not have foreseen that their call would result in a suicide but do you really think they actually considered the consequences for a second. All they were interested in is their own ratings.

Sorry for misunderstanding me. Let me rephrase then.

I cannot understand why the Ozzies are the ONLY ones being blamed for this by some people.

Who gave them the telephone number for Kate's ward?
Why did the British media make such a big fuss out of this and started hounding the nurse for quotes and comments (They only care about their own ratings too)
Why did the nurse not seek help for problems? (Any sane person will concede that she must have had some sort of depression even before this happened)
Why was she depressed in the first place? Was her work so stressful and toxic to her health?

So, for me it is a series of events and circumstances that led to her suicide. And my problem is that the big fuss is just being made about the Ozzies and the prank call and that the call was the only reason she committed suicide.

Now we do agree. I reckon the British media, who apparently hounded this woman, as is their want, should take a fair portion of the blame. No one would have known her details without their involvement.

Not sure anyone has said it is the only reason she committed suicide but it most certainly appears to have been the catalyst that set in motion the other events that resulted in her committing suicide.

The OP is pretty adamant (Swearing and name calling included) that the Ozzies are the only ones to blame.

Now these two stupid ****ERS in australia does a stupid prank which leads to a nurse's death. Disgusting

Sign a petition to get these two morons fired.

Listening too that prank call I was reminded of the scene from The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo where the the uncle invites him into his house even though Daniel Craig knew he was possibly the murderer. The Uncle then says something about the fear of offending overrides the rational fear of the situation.

Well. It started with them. And they continued with it even after apparently apologizing. That shows that they were not really apologetic.

And I do still stand by my words. They did this not to highlight any particular need or injustice, they did it simply for the ratings they thought they would get out of it.

The buck stops at them. It would be difficult to prosecute anyone who 'retweets or reposts' the comments of somebody else. Not impossible, but extremely difficult. So you go to the source. And that is these two miscreants. They should not be allowed on air again. Plain and simple.

The same can be said about the British media who would not leave the nurse alone after the call was aired.

See what I did there.

Yeah I saw what you did. You didn't read properly. Try again.

Responsibility my friend starts with the instigator of a situation. That is why inquiries goes into so much detail. Not to get the small fry who were just following others. They are mindless followers. You need to get to the source of the trouble.

So then get to the source of her depression before this happened.

Who or what made her so unhappy that a silly thing like a joke finally pushed her over the edge?

Why has the other nurse (the one who actually gave out all the info) not committed suicide yet?

Have you read anything up to this point? I thought it was made quite clear why this happened.

Why are you trying to defend them so much? Have you done something similar and am trying to justify it?

Like I said previously. I don't wish any physical harm to come to these two, but they should take responsibility for what happened. Would she have been dead if they DIDN'T do this? I would say NO!. So your argument is null and void. They are responsible and should not be on radio anymore. It really is not that difficult to understand.

This pretty much sums up my thoughts .. the UK gutter press strikes again

Haha. You don't know me from a bar of soap and I don't need to justify anything.

Why exactly are you trying so hard to ignore other possible events/circumstances that led to her suicide? Why are you not being objective? What are you trying to justify?

Would she have been dead if they DIDN'T do this? I would say NO!. So your argument is null and void.

Prove it! You are speculating just as much as the media.

And just because you don't agree with me does not make my opinion null and void.

If you took the time to read all the posts in your own thread you would notice that they have indeed been removed from air.
