Well, that's rather nice.

...
*sigh* Common sense is so hard to find these days. (i feel a sad now)
If you read my posts you would have seen that I called for them to be fired as there should be consequences to everyone's actions, whether it is intentional or not. Everyone is always up in arms when a politician does something which isn't ethical, then everyone wants them to be fired (impeached) immediately. Why is this not so with these two?
What this world needs most is for people to take responsibility of their actions. I've explained this before, and perhaps that is why I appear to become somewhat 'arrogant'.... I know their intentions were not to have someone die due to their stupid prank, but still, what they did was not ethical in the circumstances. They should have known better and thought about the consequences of their actions, instead of just going ahead and invading a special bond between caregiver and patient/patient's family. They should also have foreseen that the British Press which everyone knows is gagga about the Royals would make a huge story out of this. And they should have realized that these nurses could have gotten into a lot of trouble. I think that part is indisputable if you have a bit of common sense to draw upon. Personally, I think they did think about these issues and still decided to go ahead. Why did they ask the opinion of a lawyer? Just to make sure that they were not 'technically' breaking any laws. So they probably knew that this was potentially harmful. So they did this all in the name of ratings for their show.
I've heard numerous persons all over who long for a time past, when people took responsibility when things went pear shaped. It was the honorable thing to do.
Think on this:
1) Impersonating another person to get information is not ethical (in fact it is illegal)
2) Invading the privacy of a person who is in distress due to a pregnancy is not ethical.
3) Making a recording of someone and then playing it over the radio without them consenting is not ethical. (It is illegal in SA)
4) They should have known that this would spread like wild-fire. Why did they keep on punting their stupid joke until shortly after the woman committed suicide. Their best prank ever.
5) They should have realized that they were affecting a professional person and was putting her at risk for losing her job over this.
6) They should have known that the British Media would catch onto this breach into security like vampires. (We may not like it, but in Britain, the Royals are well.... Royalty)
7) It does not take much thinking to come to the conclusion that this poor person's live must have become a living hell. There would have been repercussions at work. Whether official of not.
8) This poor woman's professional image was tarnished. Do you think she would have had any change of furthering her career after this?
9) The UK Health Professions council would most likely later on have gotten involved too, which would have been added stress to her.
10) The press would have hounded her.
11) Everywhere she went she would have been recognized as the 'one who got duped by pranksters'.
If you take all that into consideration, then you must realize that for a person who did not seek the limelight, and were by nature a caring person, this burden might have become too much to bear. Taking your own life is NOT an easy solution. It takes more guts than you would ever know.
Now read this, this is not what I am saying, but what someone who nearly committed suicide said:
"Scott Ford : As a person who has himself attempted suicide in the past, I can picture all too clearly the distress that Nurse Jacintha must have been going through. Looking after the health of the future queen must have been one of the proudest moments of her life. An experience that she would have treasured until old age. She probably imagined being able to tell her future grandchildren about this great responsibility that had been entrusted to her. And then two brainless idiots thousands of miles away, through just one phone call, brought her whole world shattering down. Suddenly she was humiliated & shamed for letting the call go through. It may have been a scratchy line. Maybe she went into mild shock when she thought that the Queen was speaking to her. But she transferred that call, and was thus marked forever (in her mind) as being gullible. She probably saw herself being excluded from future positions of trust, despite what her bosses said. And in her state of emotional distress & perceived shame, she decided that the only way out was to take her own life. I almost feel like saying that I hope the 2 DJs from 2DayFM take the same path as Jacintha, but 2 wrongs don't make a right. Perhaps they will instead become more thoughtful & caring of others, and do constructive things in society instead of relying on humiliating innocent people for their kicks. But my thoughts today are only with Jacintha's family & colleagues. May that good lady rest in peace. "
I don't know. I think I make sense.
