Royal Prank Nurse

She is probably receiving councilling of some sort. Maybe that is exactly what everyone else also thought, that because the first nurse didn't give out information, she would not be affected.

But obviously she was affected deeply by this. Remember, some people take their jobs seriously. She knew full well that she was the first one duped. She honestly thought she was speaking to the queen of england. And, whether we like it or not, in that country the royal family is considered a big deal. So when it transpired that it was a hoax, she must have known that she was the one who put the call through which led to personal information being leaked out. She thus assumed responsibility. The second nurse gave the information because she thought it was the Queen too. And that must have been in part becase the first nurse were confident it was the queen. So again, the finger would have pointed back to Jacintha.

No one, not me, not you know if she had any pre-existing problems. Nothing has been made known. And assuming it is so, is also not right. I would rather give her the benefit of the doubt.

We also don't really know how others reacted to her. It could well have had some racial implications too as others could have said: See, this is what happens when you employ a nurse from India.

What we do know for a fact, is that she was the one who was duped, and that she is now dead. Remember, she was the victim here.

She might have had depression, and the phone call was the cherry on the cake, or she was scared she was going to lose her job and she had 10 children to feed etc etc. We do not know what went on in her head, so its pointless to speculate. It is what it is, and its sad what happened.

Well I'm sure as shyte not going to blame the DJ's

Well, I do think they have to take responsibility for an ill-conceived idea. I accept the fact that they are not solely responsible, but it all started with them.

Prank calls are juvenile. And invading a sick persons privacy is dumb in my view in any case.

Also read up on PTSD (it could have played a part in her suicide):

Wow guy, looks like you were almost as badly affected by this as the nurse.
Are you having sleepless nights?

No, I am not having sleepless nights.
But what is worrying to me is that so few people here have little or no empathy for this poor nurse.
A stint at a suicide helpline would help some.

I am just trying to get people to see things from her side of the coin. And I am an opponent of stupid prank calls.

I doubt even you can see things from her side, you are basing your whole argument on this event with no understanding of her state of being prior to the call and very little information about who she really was as a person

perhaps the call was just the straw that broke the camels back, unfortunately we'll never know what went through her mind that lead to this tragic circumstance

But seeing things from other peoples view is an essential part of what makes us human?

I say again. The call might have been the last straw. It might have been the full straw. We don't know. But what is known, is that that call ended in a tragedy and no one can dispute that. Even the DJ's involved are shattered. Why? Because they feel the responsibility it appears.

...now let her rest pls

It's not that easy. You don't let something rest until the full truth comes out. This is true in this case, this is true about anything which makes world or local news, eg. Nkandla.

Once appropriate steps have been taken, then this matter will come to a rest, and everyone will have learned from it.

Jissus, we've become a society that venerates stupidity, glorifies the weak and irrational, overly sympathises with the idiots.

Just to clarify (and I have much sympathy with her family and loved one), either -

1) She had no mental pre-condition and the prank alone drove her to suicide. In which case she's a ****ing loon whose demise cleanses the gene pool or

2) She had an existing pre-condition in which case the prank was simply the straw that broke the camels back...and inevitably something else would have triggered her suicide in the foreseeable future in any event...so putting the blame on the DJs, and the attention they have garnered, and all the hissy fits, is just plain wrong and frankly damn well idiotic.

The prank may have been stupid or childish, but bloody hell can we keep some perspective here?

While morons like you contaminate the gene pool.

If think people with depression are contaminating the gene pool then you one seriously screwed up individual.

I think you are the one in need of perspective.

You have no proof of a pre-condition. That is just speculation.

You assertions that that cleansies the gene pool is ludicrous. So, anyone who experiences stress in their lives and have suicidal thoughts, should kill themselves as it helps the gene pool? Seriously?

Even the DJ's are feeling a bit of remorse now! You certainly don't appear to have any sympathy, your words betray you. So what is your mental state? Would you say that you need to cleanse yourself from the gene pool then?

I submit that you should stop. Read. Contemplate. Before you make any further comments.

Just to be clear, I said that IF THERE WAS NO PRE-EXISTING MENTAL CONDITION then committing suicide based on the known facts of this prank call is ridiculous - hence the gene pool comment.

No where did I make light of mental conditions.

I'm sorry, that is still an assumption. Even if there was no pre-exsting condition, then the stress of the situation could have led to her experiencing tremendous pressure.

Be that as it may, there is still no reason to consider that someone should commit suicide due to mental stress to clean the gene pool.

Your words

are crass, insensitive. The words of an idiot. The rest of your post doesn't mitigate this in any way.

The DJ 's certainly show far more respect for this women and her family than you do

It was a bit crass, I apologise. I'm just extremely miffed at the whole reaction to the suicide and the blame apportioned to the DJs. If this woman had no pre-existing conditions then she is an idiot, finish and klaar.
