Im sure there has been a few threads on this but are there any DEcent RPG's out there for PC hell Even playstation. Excpet the FF Series finished them all, but there bow seems to be a lack there off these days or is it just me. A good RPG with a Rivid Storyline.:D

(PS- prince of persia all series, would you title that as a adventure fps, but with swords instead?)

Prince of Persia is an adventure game along the lines of Tomb Raider etc.

Depending on how deep you like your character interaction, I'd say go with either Fable or the old Black Isle games. Fable's fantastic, but for proper roleplaying my order of preference is:
+ Fallout 1 & 2
+ Planescape: Torment
+ Baldur's Gate
+ Neverwinter Nights

Mmmm

Thanks gonna get my hands on a few of those but i like my in depth storyline so forth.. but whats planscape all about never heard of it?

In addition i cant seem to find it anyware?

Any good?

Good luck with finding Planescape, you will have to look for those "3 classic games in 1" boxes. Fallout/Planescape/Baldur's Gate are all relatively old games, so always a hassle to find them.

I'd go with Baldur's Gate [the first one] for a great story. You can get like the whole series in one box in the shops [BG 1,2 and expansions] .

Another rpg with relatively interesting story is KOTOR [Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic] .

Currently playing Neverwinter Nights 2, plot looks good so far. Neverwinter Nights 1 however, sucked in the story department though [in fact the whole single player campaign was a bore..[unless you are into Diablo] ].

You basically have to choose between having a plot that "rules" the game versus a "overarching" plot that pops up here and there [but you are mostly left up to your own devices].

For example:

Morrowind/Oblivion ...there's a plot there, but you can play the game for a month and still not know what the heck you're "really" suppose to do.

Kotor/Baldur's Gate/Neverwinter Nights/Icewind Dale/Fallout have very strong plot controlling most of the game.

I sometimes feel the newer RPGs get alot of freedom intentionally because of the boring main plot....

Anyway Final Fantasy is also an RPG ruled by its plot ...but they main feature of the series is the excellent plot .

Plot Vs Gameplay

When it comes to FPS i like the pretty stuff cause there are not FPs's that have a serious plot. but Rpg's now as long as the story is good a decent gamplay i dont really care. There is this package called

Forgotten Realms Deluxe Edition

which includes

Neverwinter Nights
Neverwinter Nights: Shadows of the Undentide Expansion Pack
Neverwinter Nights: Hordes of the Underdark Expansion Pack
Baldur's Gate
Baldur's Gate: Tale of the Sword Coasts Expansion Pack
Baldur's Gate 2
Baldur's Gate 2: Throne of Bhaal Expansion Pack
Icewind Dale
Icewind Dale: Heart of Winter Expansion Pack
Icewind Dale 2

Is this worth the buy?

Or would you rather suggest NWN2 instead?

Im not sure anymore:(

I bought that package and you have hundreds upon hundreds of hours of game play, you should have no fear I mean its only R300 for that many hours of play, you do the math :)

I would go for the deluxe edition. NWN2 is only one game and imho just a "shadow" of Baldur's Gate. Sure graphics are better, but plot-wise NWN2 is only rehasing old ideas...

Neverwinter Nights 1 isn't that great single player, but not terrible..lots of user-made mods that are better . You'll get a good idea what NWN2 is like in terms of controls/gameplay [the whole 3D thing]. Problem with NWN is the focus on "group/online play" , the single player essentially became a "demo" for what the engine can do...the whole point of NWN was for players to create their own DnD adventures [like the pen and paper DnD] with a group of friends.

Icewind dale is actually quite fun, i can't recall a big story [there is one and it's a very linear game] but it's one heck of a fast paced version of Baldur's Gate...if you get tired of the slowness of Baldur's Gate [i..e wandering around doing quests etc] , icewind dale is almost make-your-party and whoop-some-baddies and get it done with gameplay...but essentially same 2D 6 character party system.

Icewind never caught my interest because it's a little like Fallout Tactics: a squad-based tactical game where the story is secondary, but set in an RPG world and using some of it's mechanics.

KOTOR! I knew there was something I'd missed. Yess, tassty Jedises...

Fallout is damn near impossible to find nowadays, sadly. You might find it up for download on some abandonwarez sites, but most shops will tell you it's not available anywhere. Sigh. Guess we wait for Bethesda's Fallout3 and hope they can arrange a package set with the older games... :)

Morrowind was just... annoying. That's the reason I never got into Oblivion... Morrowind ruined that world for me. Sigh. Bouncing around to get acrobatics up, trying desperately to find chain mail pauldrons to go with the rest of the suit, graphics weren't very good, and the story lacked substance.

Another game you might try for RPG value is Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines. It's buggy as all hell, and needs a decent machine, but fun to play. I'm told that the earlier VtM game, forget it's name right now, was longer and had a better story though. On the vampire theme, if you're into games like Prince of Persia then you might want to look at the Soul Reaver series. Dated but still fun.

Listen, dude, this package is well worth the buy. They are awesome. Good as a single player, great as multiplayer :D

What can change the nature of a man ???.

One of the very few games that made me think.

Indeed. And they really got creative with the whole past lives/immortality thing...

RPGs need character like Torment had. I liked how you could build on a personality. Also, there aren't many games where you can be truly, yet not obviously evil. Takes alignment beyond the point of kicking puppies.

Cool sounds like i might have a few Hours of Game play on my hands. while i wait for FFXII which is only subject for release her in SA in march sometime if im not mistaken.
Will have to order it cause teh waiting period is like 20 days...ish but its sure to be a Wait..worth while..

Thanks for the Help

Im kinda looking forward to that "Hellgate London" mif im not mistaken the name?

Ooh, Hellgate:London looks like being great fun... more on a par with Diablo than with an actual RPG, but still :) Shares a lot of the old Blizzard Diablo team, as far as I recall...

Howzit! Incredible Connection (Durbs) has Planescape & Baldurs Gate in a Box pack, both going for R499. Its steep, I bought Baldurs Gate & am loving it. Try CNA, they tend to stock lots of old games or even Look & Listen.

Another nice game you might like would be the EverQuest range.

Vampire: Bloodlines I think was the name. Although it had quite a few bugs (had to be patched to even pass certain areas) - it was AWESOME. Really intriguing storyline and excellent game play.

Fallout was also good, although I played it a couple of years later and was like "WTF, I remember it being a lot better".

On recent RPG's: Oblivion is the only good one IMO.

Favourite RPG's:
Planescapte Torment ruled all. Nothing can compare
Fallout 1 & 2
Vampire: Bloodlines was good once you got all the patches
Oblivion
