So my xbox has lasted 2years. Finally after a epic boss fight in Ninja Gaiden (which i just finished and saved :D...it RROD'd on me :(

Oh and i dont have the proof of payment :p and am far too lazy to go the MI Digital route. Since this ISNT the flame thread i'll ignore offtopic responses such as "ps3 is better". Time to open it up and perform surgery!

The 360 FAQ is brilliant, thanks a lot to the guys who added vital information to it! I've spent the evening reading up on the X-Clamp fix, and will repair it tomorrow. Does the MyBB xbox community have any helpful tips? Any ideas where I can buy the washers, any idea what screws I use, or do I use the same screws from the heatsink?

If i do stuff up the surgery, I'll send it through to Maestro ;)
 
Well, i really wanna open 1 up and fiddle (not the take everything off the mobo and tinker), but see how its put together... good thing tech support is my job ;)
 
I have a pdf manual to fix rrod ! Pm me ur e-mail addy then i'll mail it 2u.

Going the MI Digital route is crap but u might just end up with a brand new HDMi falcon !

I HATE DIY !!!

It is not a case of just replacing the p*ss poor MS issued x-clamp's.

I use a SMD rework station ($$$$) to do proper reflowing of the cold solder joint which causes ROL (Ring Of Light) errors on the X360 motherboard. As well as other equipment.

Many people have come right with the DIY methods on YouTube and other sites. It may work for you as well Optioncarduser ... for a few weeks ...

I'm available for when you need me ;)
 
LOL ... it puts $$$ in the pocket for more Xbox 360 games :D

Thing is, I've had many consoles sent to me with ... I dont have audio or video, E74 error help ... etc.

Once I've opened it up I see ... uhm ... this has been worked on. Phone the guy ... ja well I followed a RROD tutorial on the Net ... and so on.

I'm going to add a R50 handling fee soon for "worked on" consoles.

PS3 fanboi I see ... Let me guess ... the Playstation 3 doesn't fail right? WRONG !!!

Give me a quote for a broken Blu-Ray drive, broken power supply or replacement laser for the Playstation 3 ... then we'll talk. The hardware prices for that platform is ridiculous!

So you would rather pay less for something with an extremely high failure rate? All I can say is, you get what you pay for and im getting more than you guys because I payed for it. Cheap blu-ray player, Reliable hardware, better games and free network applications.

Valante, please stop trying to derail the thread. Go make your own thread about how much better the ps3 is. This thread is about RROD and resolving its problems.

To answer your question regarding 'High failure rate'...
My xbox is the ORIGINAL model xbox, you know the 1s infamous for RROD'ing weeks after purchase. Each SKU since then has vastly improved.

Reliable hardware's ass ... PS3 might seem statistically better but remember RROD is almost exclusive to 2005 - 2006 models. I have yet to get a newer machine for Ring Of Death related repairs.

Better games ... name the exclusives on PS3 compared to the 360. Then look at the number of cross-platform titles. Sssseeshhhh ... no contest.

FREE network applications ... you sound like an infomercial dude. If you don't already work for Sony ... I recommend that you join the marketing department.

You blabber more than Poison Ivy ... maybe you should join the dysfunctional DoC.
