RTMC mum on plans for lower speed limits

FFS so with all the high tech car safety features these days, eg. following radar / stay in lane / multi air bags / crumple zones / ABS / stabilty control / cruise control etc. etc. cars are much safer today than ever before - yet traffic department smart asses decide to lower the speed limit:unsure: instead of looking at their drivers licence curriculum and teach people to drive properly and to obey the traffic rules.

just like our 30% pass rate, its easier to lower the standard than to educate people!

to many people run red lights / stop signs - specially taxis.

drive down Geil Basson in the mornings and afternoons and see what taxis get up to!! they use the "turn right lane" to cut the queue at the robots and come at you headon!! kants:mad:

Mo in his M3 doing 140 km/ h in the fast lane with his eyes pinned on the road scouting for cameras and cop cars is not what kills. It Tebs in the middle lane in his Polo doing 90km/h with his seat reclined to laying position, one had on the steering wheel, phone in the other and both eyes the WhatsApp chat that kills because he gas zero situational awareness.

Its overloaded unroadworthy taxi driving aggressively in the emergency lane with no following distance or respect for the rules or other road users that kills.

But **** yea lets all drive slower because thats the problem

Speeding drivers are a bigger problem than the speed limit. The same goes for reckless drivers, not wearing seatbelts, and unroadworthy vehicles. Officials should be enforcing way better. Dropping the speed limit a bit is only going to earn more money for government. What is it going to cost too for changing every single speed limit sign across the entire country?

Yes, the changes are a 💩 idea. Simply enforce the existing laws better.

So now instead of being 10kmh over the speed limit I'll be 20kmh over the speed limit. FFS these guys are reinventing the wheel here

I have a weird suggestion, I know its radical for government.
Its a really weird suggestion, based on what I have seen while I was driving about.
How about, hear me out.
How about enforcing current road traffic rules
In the last week I have seen minibus taxis force other cars into oncoming traffic, drove into oncoming traffic, skip robots and stop streets, disregard road markings, stop on turns and in slip ways. All of these have fines attached to them yet it doesn't get enforced.
And from what I experienced, because mini bus taxis can do it, why not other cars. If cars does it, why not large busses like Putco busses.
But no... Government think it must be speed that is the issue.
In the early 1990's people abide by the traffic law for fear of getting fines. Today traffic laws are seen more as a suggestion by road users.

They should lower the speed limit in urban areas and increase the speed limit on national highways to 140 or even 160. 120 is ridiculously slow in the middle of the Karoo on the N1.

Yes but they don’t get money for speeding taxis. Most of Gov owns them anyway.

They will get money from normal citizens though…

Can't fix potholes. Close the roads
Can't provide electricity. Tax the sun
Can't provide water. Add restrictions
Can't create jobs. Blame whites

Cant enforce road laws. Reduce the speed limit.

Braindead african thinking at its best
