Hey guys,

I have a GTX 1080. The RTX 3070 can be bought for 12k now. Wondering if the price will keep dropping or should I just bite the bullet and buy it now. Additionally, the 4XX series is coming out; so not sure about waiting.

Advice would be appreciated.

Tricky one. Typically I'd say wait for 4xxx and the new Radeons to release, but the dollar is on a surge and that's going to screw things.

R12k for a 3070 is pretty good, it's a massive upgrade over the 1080.

3070 ti's are also looking much better price wise

R14K compared to R17K @ end of Jan

Just do it. good value. enjoy more time with a good card. I got a 3080 for R18k almost 2 yrs ago just before prices went haywire. Im so glad I just jumped onto it

Look at some bench marks, the ti is not really worth the extra cash.
When I bought there where no 3070’s and the 3080 was too much more of a premium (about 30% more and I didn’t “need” the extra performance)

But yah, i agree.
It is nice though to have that little bit more performance to try hit 120hz @ 1440p (the lg oled seems to have an excellent upscaler that I don’t really notice that it isn’t 4K, but 100+ vs 60 fps is huge)

Depends what you are comfortable spending.

Definitely won’t be disappointed with the 3070

If you have the time and inclination to game now, go for it. 12k is the best price it has ever been.
Of course something new will come out in a few months but what price do you put on waiting for the new thing that is always a few months away?

I will say check out the Radeon 6750xt as it has 12GB VRAM as is more future proof.
The 3070's 8GB of video memory is already a problem with Farcry 6. When turning on HD textures it warns you its not enough and if you ignore it, it goes from smooth 90FPS to 20FPS stutters every 30 sec or so.
I suppose check the games you play most often as to whether it will run better on AMD or Nvidia.

I don't get how nvidia thought 8gb on a 1440p gpu would be a good idea these days? The old 6gb gtx1060 is still styling vram wise for 1080p gaming...

How much is the 6750XT?

Nice, how does it compare on benchmarks?
It is mostly compared to 3070ti. It depends on games. On AMD optimized games it beats the 3070ti. On Nvidia games it loses.

RTX and DLSS are advantages for Nvidia if you play games that support it (I only used it on Cyberpunk) but the 8GB vram even on the 3070ti is already an issue in some games. If I was buying now I would go 6750.

Can wait for the 4 series to come so you can get the 3 series for even cheaper. I'll probably get the 3 series when the 5 series is out.
I've had my 2 and 1660ti for what seems like forever now :)

Yeah, got my wife a complete 1070Ti machine for the price of a 3 series card.
Yup pricing went insane :( I mean in 2019 my 2060 super was just under 8k. My 1660ti was just under 5. Then 2020 happened

I'm seeing a lot of articles that expect the prices to drop even more...if you can wait a bit longer and you might save another 1-1.5k if we're really lucky. But if you really want it now then that is already a great price compared to where it has been for a long time.

Yup its only good till crypto turns, I would say now is a great time to snap up one or if you wanna risk it wait 1-2 months for real bargains

Even prior to the current round of insane Crypto crashes grfx card pricing was falling quite significantly, so odds are good after the current crypto mayhem that trend will continue.

It seems large scale mining was already shifting away from utilising grfx cards and moving towards dedicated mining hardware and that trend should continue.
