I've never liked his attitude. Very smug and doesn't actually listen. "Take it or leave it" was his style.

Maybe a fresh broom is required at Mweb.

I doubt any other attitude would have achieved free and open peering.

It doesn't take a visionary to be the second to offer uncapped and then to prevent customers actually getting it by imposing extremely heavy shaping.

I doubt any other attitude would have achieved free and open peering.

I recall the surreptitious changes he made to the T&C and advertising promises.

Also Mweb customer billing was his baby before CEO, which is still a dog's breakfast.

Cynic or your opinion? Agreed MWEB's billing is not that great (I'm on Mweb btw), but to try and take away credit from Mweb being internet pioneers is as absurd as a football fan saying Messi/Ronaldo are average footballers. Transparent biased opinion on your behalf sir, but lets not pretend that Mweb (faults and all) has done nothing for the telecoms market in SA.

Big loss for MWEB for sure...

He will be missed, but we can only hope for his continuing success in whatever business ventures he gets into, and that he's spirit stays with MWEB in terms of the uncapped internet stuff... I've grown to reliant on not having to worry about what i'm downloading and how big it is.

I can't recall you saying one positive thing about MWEB, ever.

Correct. Easy to say in retrospect that what MWEB and Rudi did was easy, but at the time it was revolutionary. Is changed the local ADSL landscape, and it took guts to table the idea, build a business model and make it work.

As for Rudi - he is a great guy. Not even worth arguing about it.

We need his attitude inside ICASA, but I doubt he's eligible for any positions there, because he's competent.

I can commend him for the "shake up" he made in the ISP industry recently, but not much else good I can say about him.
(I worked for MWEB for 9 years from 1999-2008)

In the more than one year that I used their (standard) 4mbps uncapped product, I never had any problem with them. Canceling was also as easier as sending an e-mail, iirc.

So, easy to get in, a pleasure to use their service, and easy to get out. Well, that was my experience.

15 years - yikes - one doesn't leave easily after 15 years - usually have stock options at least to keep you tethered - wonder what the behind the scenes story is (sheesh, I'm getting old, I was at the original launch of MWeb)
