Rudolph Muller and Telkom

I suspect the 82% customer satisfaction referred to in the article, relates to one of them old Markinor surveys that Telkodemonopolies commissioned Markinor to do [emphasis on old and commissioned].

Yeah, I am 99% sure they are referring to this survey as quoted below, even though there is a slight percentage difference in satisfaction:

Telkom provided ICASA with the Markinor survey, and the ICASA chair then read out a couple of methodological facts on this survey. I thought many would like to know what was said – The Markinor survey was conducted in October 2003, and at the time Telkom says they had about 30 000 ADSL customers. 759 ADSL customers were surveyed, about half were residential users (370), about half were business users. 87% were said to be satisfied with the service. This is all the information that was released.

"I am far from satisfied"
"we are not saitsfied with this service"
"No, I am not satisfied with your ...."
"It will not work, I am not satisfied"

The overwelming term used by customers was "satisfied"

Markinor survey-
759 surveyed in 2003
143 000 current users
87% satisfied...........

therefore:

0,5% of users surveyed
0,25% of which were residential customers
87% of the 0,25% were happy
therefore a total of 0,2% of all residential users were satisfied.

That's it. One fifth of a percent of residential users said they were happy, and Telkom relies on stats from this tiny sample.

I ask one of my many neighbours if they like me. The person says yes. Therefore 100% of my neighbours surveyed like me.
Survey results show 100% of my neighbours like me.

Chinese maths!

Great indicator there Telkom.

Slow road to speedy internet - Telkom charges 'obscene'

Same Wendy Knowler from a Cape Times article with almost identical content.

well it must be said satisfaction can be had sure, but satisfaction with what?.. e.g. i am satisfied with my line, it works and has not given big problems since jan. BUT i am not satisfied with service offered/shaped-unshapped, cap etc on the line or cost of the line.

Telkom how do you expect me to be grateful when you reduce something that is 1000% overpriced by 12% (24% according to Telkom maths)?

Stevie Hayward has been re-awarded the Antitrust Idiot Award. Well done, that's two week in a row now!
*gasp* is he taking Ivy's throne?

Methinks it's time to add a 'Moron of the Millennium' award as well.. it's only fair. If I may offer a suggestion - could you place a south african communications minister in said spot?

Well lets wait for her next balls-up, and if appropriate, she may regain the top spot!
