Rugby: Springboks 2008 Thread

I just hope we win, last year we showed the doubting masses that rugby is actualy THE south african game, not like that pansy game where they just kick a ball.

It will be interesting to see what this new team will be like, and it will be great if they do well, it increases the number of players to choose from, although I do feel they need a little bit more input from the players that won last year

aye....also im happy we are going to try running rugby.....if the new rules are here to stay we would have to addapt to the more aussie and kiwi playing patterns..

Great thread!!!

Few points:

I am not the biggest Januarie fan but he seems to be handling the job pretty good. Kockott doesnt come close, he is very immature, you can see it when he plays. He needs to grow up to be taken seriously.

Chivanga!!! Enuff said! Is he recovered yet? I was at Newlands when he pulled his hamstring against the Canes.

Excited for the Wales game, although i dont see them giving us too much trouble. If histroy is anything to go by, this shouldnt be too hard.

That's why I'm really hoping that PDV can actually coach at this level ....... I'm gonna be a bundle of nerves until we can take them on and beat them :D

Same, at least he did well with the u/21 national side.......

But i also know that there is a big diff. between u/21 and test rugby.....

Well there is not much to say about the coach, but i'm really looking forward to the first game on Saturday, biltong and wine for me thanks

I like Guthro, always thought his play in the loose exceeds the average prop. Not sure his scrumming is up to scratch though. I would choose Kankowsi, he is a game breaker and reads the game very well. Spies is good but he plays too similar a role. Can I be controversial and say lets play Spies on the wing! I would not mind seeing him get the ball close to the line with one player to beat! Even although I am a stormers fan, I am not that sure about Luke. He can be good but is he the best fetcher in Schalks absence? I am worried that Jacobs will be made to look good against Wales, he is a good provincial player, average S14 player and international????? not so sure. If he proves me wrong, I will be happy for him. January is a good in your face player for the tri nations. I do believe Kockitt is about ready but agree with the statement that he is not mature enough yet. He just needs to control his aggression a little.

I prefer the Beast over Gurthro in the loose play ...... Have to agree about Jacobs too .... he is unfortunately average outside provincial play. Unless used as an impact player near the end of a match, then he's good too.

And the DeVillier-isms start ....... :o

He switched to English when he told us that there is an old saying that there is a time to come and a time to go and that some players may have discovered that their time to go may have arrived sooner than they expected. Even if this is what he meant, and he really does intend phasing out the senior players, it seemed tactless when Victor Matfield was sitting alongside him.

He also seemed determined to emphasise the point that Matfield had probably “done more good for the team by being off the field for the past two weeks than he would have done had he been on it”. So what exactly is De Villiers saying here? Is he saying that the best lineout forward in the world would be better off coaching than playing? The mind boggles.
..... ooh boy, here we go again

How many peeps reckon we are fully ready for the Tri-Nations? I'll admit I'm having some serious butterflies concerning our combinations and 'vooma' ....... I want the Ozzies and AB's crushed this year :D

Well I think we sucked royally on saturday, and can thank our lucky stars we won. They were all so unstructured, running around like headless chickens.

Both of the tries from the welsh should never have happened, if we concentrated, but there were times when the boys just hanged around, like they were braaing or something.

If I was PDV I would seriously be kicking some ass today. I hope the problem was a mental one, they thought:"oh well its only the welsh, we can beat them easily".

Now my first gripe, conrad jantjies. The guy is lightening fast, but other than that, zero on a contract, he reminds me a lot of percy, when he started, he was also as useless as a lightbulb in a blackout, but matured into a great player, and I can only hope that will happen with conrad. I would let him start on the bench and then play him later on, but not from the beginning when we need to ram the other team and play them scared.

Now my second grip, and this breaks my heart. Pierre, ol buddy, I want those naked pics of myself I send you back!!!! You were horrible this weekend, seriously, you looked like a teenager struggling with a girls bra clasp everytime you got the ball. C'mon man, you have to play, otherwise the sharks will get their idea of a 8th man into the game, and that will be a tragedy cause he does not compare an inch to you.

Luke Watson, oh man you suck, you started off with a glint in your eye, just ready to lay waste the welsh, and then just fizzled out into a puff of steam, seriously, we need schalk back, the combo of schalk smith and spies will be a killer.

And lastly, Juanne Smith, buddy, you were amazing, seriously, one could see you played with your heart, and battled and battered the welsh on every corner. Us blue bull supporters and the sharks supporters should bow our head sin respect for this boytjie from the freestate.

Well keep it up boys, currie cup is comming up mmmmmmmmm can't wait for the taste of shark meat.

And PDV kick their @sses!!
