Well.. my laptops hard drive bailed on me, and then the screen was soon to follow... so what I have done is install puppylinux into the laptops memory... and am running the whole OS loaded just in memory. With a spare screen I have lying around.

So far my uptime is 2 days... I wonder how long this will last.... My only denial of service I can foresee is Eskom.

This is the OS running without a hard disk, flash disk or cdrom... though it did boot off the cdrom.

I used to be able to run DOS like that for a really long time, didn't worry about Eskom back then...

Ive got a laptop battery in the laptop.. but that will only be an hour and a half... when the power goes.... all my settings go :(

What are you using your computer for? Are you writing files anywhere?

Well they are currently being written into the RAM... 3 days uptime so far. Have to admit, when an OS is loaded into memory it flies. Using the PC to browse the web, check mail, RDP into some windows servers, ssh into some linux servers. Occasionally watch a DVD... that kinda stuff

Why not pop in a USB memory stick, mount it, and save your settings to it?

Yeah I could do that... if I knew where my USB flash disk went on walk about to :D

How much memory do you have?

I don't believe your uptime. Post your w, post it or it didn't happen :D

At the office... dodgy laptop is at home.. hehe, assuming eskom does not kill it, will post it tomorrow. (No SSHd on the laptop either)

Have 512 mb of ram, with 174 being used by the OS.

Okay.. um.. found my flash disk, but it means naught... the laptop has to survive a power out scheduled at 2pm today :(

The power only went out for 2 hours.. the laptops battery lasts for an hour and half when in use and with its screen on... I wonder if it survived the 2 hours... cause it didnt have to power the screen? *hopeful look*

Ha.. it survived!

Code:
sh-3.00# uptime
 17:25:07 up 3 days, 4:15, load average: 0.00, 0.00, 0.00
