running wires for a surround sound setup

Rear speaker stands (assuming tv is at the pt marked DST con)

Run wire to left under curtains. Tape to wall, non marking tape works well.

At doorway marked (to balcony). You get a rubber strip that has a notch in the underside to run wires. Stocked at most shops that sell furniture directly to business. The cubicle type furniture shop. Waltons sold us a few a while back.
 
My pa took off the regular skirting board from the flat and replaced it with PVC skirting which has space for wires behind.
 
hey look around there is some nice cable trunking around to hide those horrible wires...
 
Dremel make a nice attachment for removing grout. Much better for precision work where you can't afford to mess up the tiles. Do that, YouTube how to do grouting and when you leave just bury the ends of the wires.
 
what are the implications of running 3.1 as opposed to 5.1? I mean, if you running 3.1 what audio souce would you use 5.1? Or use stereo and the amp mixes the voice into the center speaker?

I'm running a 3.1 setup ATM and where possible, I choose 5.1 at the source and let the amp handle the rest. If the source media is stereo, it depends on my mood really. Generally I also opt to let the amp upmix to the center, unless there's an audible improvement by selecting the stereo setting.

So you need to tell the AMP that you are running 3.1, right? Otherwise if you running standard stereo contect (movie/series) then nothing is gonna come through that center speaker?

I used my Marantz NR1402's Audyssey setup to configure my speakers, so it knows I'm using a 3.1 setup. I can then choose a surround option to get the center channel stuff. Works great
