Rush is on for Model C schools

Its not surprising considering the state of a lot of other schools.

I fear greatly for our survival as a nation. There is no education anymore where the government has its say.

This is so serious I cannot even start to spell out the consequences. Words to print evade me.

It's very much become a 2 tier system, at every level. I don't think their ever really was education at the lower level though. Just as Apartheid set up the majority of the population to be manual labourers, so the ANC is doing the same thing.

12 Years of failure is coming to pass. 12 Years of NO forward planning and thinking!

One major problem facing Model C schools from this year is the new fee exemption structure that effectively allows even pretty well-off parents to obtain a fee discount.

These would also be the same people that pay proportionately more taxes?

As far as I'm concerned quality education should be free for everyone.

I agree with your last statement, but unfortunately "quality" and "free" combined will be seriously rare in SA.

On the taxes issue, of course. But the school does not get a bigger slice of tax money from govt, so therefore cannot employ the extra teacher to improve the ratios, build the new classroom, etc etc. Model C school budgets ( or at least where my boy is at school ) are INCREDIBLY tight, and if well-off parents take discounts, the quality of the school infrastructure and teaching will inevitably drop.

I'm guessing the schools will just raise the fees so that in effect the parents pay the same amount after the discount as they did before the discount.

Another failure of the ANC.

Ironic that they blame apartheid yet they are so happy to use infrastructure which the apartheid regime built.

This is typical. The ANC sees something that is nice and works, but it is seen as benefitting a white elite. Their response is to trample it to dust, change it so that it doesn't exist anymore. Then nobody has it.

What they don't seem to grasp is that in a democracy there will be elite schools, elite houses in good areas, fancy shopping centers. They don't seem interested in preserving these things.

Free schools

In general, I am against the idea of free anything. Simply for the reason, that anything is free tends to be abused. To appreciate and not abuse something, it seems that humanity needs to sacrifice (no, I am not talking bulls here, that is on the other thread :D) something, usually money.

By making everyone pay for schools, however little, they now have far more of a vested interest to see that the school works.

That having been said, I am all for quality schooling at very low prices.

You're worried that kids might abuse an education if it was free?

My old school has gone down the toilet. Government let in too many people. There used to be a rule stopping anyone going if you didn't live in the area. What do you think of it?

That rule was done away with for obvious reasons. We had big schools in the suburbs that had very few pupils and schools in the townships were overcrowded.

So instead of building more schools in the townships you'd rather everyone was dragged down to a lower level? Seems to be ANC logic!

thats the de-facto logic in every decision made by the ANC for the last 12 Years. Dumping working institutions and replace it with worthless non functioning "trial and terror" structures.
Should we list:
Telkom and communications
ICASA
Poverty relieve
Housing schemes
Public services forward planning and estimation
BEE, AA (reverse racism)
Jail systems
School systems
Universities
Hospitals
Police departments
Crime prevention and specialist departments
Health care and Emergency services (just had first hand practical experience)
Public Transport thus Roads and rail structures, tollroads
Gautrain
2010 planning
And least but not last The correct punishment for true criminals, ie the Yengeni/Zuma effect.

Rather not, too depressing.

Health care and Emergency services (just had first hand practical experience)

Specifically?

I disagree on Gautrain - I must say I am impresed that they are working hard on this every day of the week. Even the website is well maintained.
