Rx 480 vs 1060

I ended up getting this one http://www.wootware.co.za/powercolo...it-gddr5-pci-e-3-0-desktop-graphics-card.html it just wasn't worth it to wait 15 days for 1 FPS.

The thing that surprised me is DX12, I have only seen negative reviews about it so was very apprehensive about it. In rise of the tomb raider benchmark on Ultra settings DX11 I got 51fps average and highest fps was 70something, with everything the same but DX12 selected I got 71 fps average and 118 highest fps. pretty huge increase of 20fps by ticking one box.

Between DX11 and DX12 you can see an increase in graphic detail and haven't had any crashes like a lot of people did running DX12.

I cant tell you what actual gameplay fps is because I cant find a fps counter that works with AMD and DX12.

Having fun messing around with it and thanks for all the help

There is likely another explanation here, DX12 on ROTR does not provide huge gains. What negative things were you seeing about DX12?

There are no visual differences between the two, probably just placebo effect ;)

The beta version of MSI Afterburner and RivaTuner works on DX12 titles: http://www.guru3d.com/files-details/msi-afterburner-beta-download.html (the latest is beta 14)

I thought that latest ROTTR patch have shown noticeable FPS increases on DX12 running AMD hardware, more so on the RX 400 series and Fury/Pro?

I dunno the exact same settings just clicked dx12 on or off 20fps difference. Some of the negative things I saw https://steamcommunity.com/app/360430/discussions/0/343787920125969671/.

Probably a placebo effect.

I will give those a go thanks

It's better, just not 20 fps better and still lags behind Nvidia (as it's an "Nvidia title").

EDIT: Oh, and I found an issue with the DX12 implementation where setting the texture quality to very high causes the game performance to tank (even with the 6GB VRAM on my 1060), the issue doesn't exist on DX11 so things aren't always that great on the DX12 version.

I will do the test again tonight, make sure nothing changes between test and post the results. I probably did something wrong.

This is the RX 480 that I'm pondering to bring into SA,

the card that I was hoping to be the DD BE is now the GTR, but it may be too late now... knowing that there may be revisions on the way.

That is the standard edition. They do have the Black Edition which they list as the OC. I can pay less abroad than locally to save a lot more on the card.

That one is here: http://www.wootware.co.za/xfx-radeo...it-gddr5-pci-e-3-0-desktop-graphics-card.html

Although spending the extra money on the out of the box OC seems a waste tbh. The RX 480 doesn't have that much OC headroom to warrant this (if you're looking to win the silicon lottery).

My new Sapphire 4GB RX 480 is happily running at 1375Mhz at around 70C at load with a very quiet fan profile, I can't seem to push it more but honestly don't think you gain much extra real world performance by pushing it any more.

Yikes, that's pricey. Honestly at that price I'd rather get it for R1000 cheaper from Amazon.co.uk even if it means a more complicated RMA process. It's literally a grand cheaper off Amazon even with priority shipping (R1200 cheaper with the cheap shipping).

Yeah, at that price you are pretty close to 1070 territory and may as well pick up a Zotac at that price range. I’m eyeing to rather import the card, in my position, I can save much on the shipping alone.

RMA is not that complicated. Plus, the XFX warranty on their Black Edition range is amongst the best in the industry. I still have a 3-year-old card covered by them, but I think that they may have changed their terms with the newer cards.

EDIT: I see that they have completely overhauled their warranty terms. Oh well.

For R1,000 more you can get a Galax 1070: http://www.wootware.co.za/galax-gef...gb-gddr5-pci-e-3-0-desktop-graphics-card.html
