Ryobi 6500 surging

That is correct. The same guy also claimed the COC for the electrical in the house was correct. It dated back to 2013.... Lots of surprises with this house so far.

I need one of those. Bike needs a lot of work. Basically a tear down and rebuild. Standing for a while.
Just dont do what my friend did...bought some crappy old Kawa....(It was running though)...for R15k
Took it all apart to 'customize" it...made a mess..lost interest and motivation
Sold for R5k a few years later...

My 1 cent suggestion.
Other than the plug check that oil level is correct. It has a sensor that will shut it down. sometime a little to low oil level can mess you around.
In the shut of valve is a mesh filter. Check if it is clean. make sure the fuel is fresh.
then check the fuel line. They are utter Chinese quality and get little cracks and either leak or get air in the system.

Very good point on the oil level sensor...

If your Ryobi generator is anything like my Ryobi drill then chuck that crap away and buy a decent generator. Goedkoop is duurkoop.

Anyone with experience on the Ryobi petrol generators.

My 6500 starts after about 5 or so pulls and then runs smooth under load and with no load.
About 15 or so minutes later it will start surging while running. Even with no load on it.

Short of the usual checking of the plug, filters etc, does anyone have an idea exactly what would cause this?
I have the Ryobi 6700. Surging is usually caused by fuel supply. Either over or under supply.
Three things to check. There is a fine sieve filter inside the fuel tap on the tank. The bottom portion of the tap can be unscrewed and the filter is inside the screw cap.
The choke on this engine is also troublesome it some times do not open completely or after running for a while the vibrations of the engine cause to close it slightly causing it to over fuel.
You may also look at the air filter. It do need cleaning now and than.

How much fuel is in the tank? I had that with my little 950, there was fuel but not enough for the motor to keep running.
I bow my head in shame.

What looked like a 50%+ full tank wasnt at all. It was a thin later of fuel on a very wide surface.

What I did notice though is a generator that hasnt seen a service in years. Black oil, fouled plug.

Will be servicing it myself soon.

It happens :) I speak from experience on that, thought there was at least a litre to get me through a load shedding session but nope it cut out on me 15 minutes in, luckily I've got a bigger gennie.

Have you checked the tank, sometimes the gunk gets drawn to the outlet and stays in the tank and doesn't reach the filter but restrains the fuel flow.

Wait, you said you still have a lot of things in boxes. Did you just move in? How did a COC from 2013 fly through the buying process?

The transferring attorney is a close friend of the previous owner. That alone should make you think.

It looks ok.

Ultimately I think I need to pack this thing up and take it to Ryobi directly for a major service.

Pretty sure that's illegal. I suspect you'll be able to get them to either do one now, or do one at your own cost and get them to refun.,

Yip I forgot about that one . Happened to my neighbour just recently.

I still have my hand book for the generator. If you change the spark plug the gap should be 0.7-0.8mm
