As the title says.

So me and a colleague are busy buying bits and pieces to upgrade our systems and replace hardware and ultimately replace PC's by year end.

I bought a set of Logitech Z313 speakers from Kalahari.com this week and the delivery time is 7 working days. Email last night said delivery date is 16 Sep, site says 18 Sep.

That's just plain atrocious in my opinion. For a set of speakers? Almost 2 weeks delivery? Why on earth?

My colleague bought a Coolermaster Chassis from Takealot this week, his delivery date is the 19th of Sep. Why? Again. Why?

Is there something wrong? Are these stores under staffed or have their couriers run out of petrol or something?

Both orders were 'free' delivery, so is this the new way to screw the consumer. We don't charge delivery costs, but you can wait your ass off?

Why you buying PC parts from general stores? Use PC part specific stores like www.wootware.co.za

Step 1: Don't be in Nelspruit
Last time I checked Nelspruit is a City and prices remain the same, no matter where you live. Step 1, be a smart ass somewhere else.

I've dealt with them and most online stores before and the larger stores have a better reputation concerning goods. Takealot gave me a R2.5K Tablet for free after they couldn't source my R1k purchase. The smaller stores actually tune me to return hardware to them if I don't plan to use it once I complain on wrongful goods sent. No thanks, I'll stick with the devil I know.

I'm just venting about this ridiculous delivery time and 7 'work day' nonsense and hopefully someone there sees it and kicks someone.

From experience, Kalahari sucks I pre-ordered the drifta before it came out and it took them 3 weeks after the launch date to deliver it

Those are the good ones. Try ordering from Expansys if you want to see what REAL waiting is. Local online stores, like local physical stores, are pathetic compared to world standards. Imagine if Amazon opened a branch here, the others would close down overnight.

Indeed, I've received stuff quicker from them, than local retailers with local stock.

It's because they don't keep stock. You order from them >> they order from supplier. They need to leave a few days safety in case supplier Fs up.
If you're paying EFT that also delays it obviously.

I understand the Business model, it's not hard to grasp. How does 7 work days create a safety net for a order from a supplier? That's just plain wrong.

I've had good service from both Kalahari and Takealot and won't knock them on quality of goods, communication or service rendered, but I will knock them on this. If Wootware or Prophecy or whoever can order and deliver within 3 days whilst I pay via EFT then why can't these 2 big guns?

It's just plain ridiculous.

It's bad when companies like those cannot get the utmost basic of things right.

You don't need any inside knowledge, special intelligence or extraordinary innovation. No you need a man in a van with a GPS.

Kalahari keeps plenty of stock. If something needs to be ordered it is marked as such on the website.

Cool beans. Kalahari sent me an email this afternoon that my stock has been sent and I should expect delivery by this week Wednesday.
I sent them a stern email explaining my concerns with a link to this thread and received no response (sent it Friday), but they definitely acted on it.

I have this inclination that I might even get my items tomorrow :p

So I still stick with my original sentiment. I will support the larger online stores, but they need to keep creating a spirit of consumerism within me, or else I'm stuck with the smaller guys and their rude attitudes and zero business ethics and crappy policies.

Edit: yes I am generalizing with the smaller guys, I've just got a bitter taste in my mouth with a previous not so long ago purchase, so mind the afterthought. I know not all the smaller stores are bad.
