S8, Note 8 or P20 Pro

My S6 is dying after nearly 4 years so it's time for a change.

Looking at contracts in the region of R600pm (outright buying the handset and still adding on minutes/data works out more expensive).

Which should I go for?

Been using Samsung for very long. When I compared specs the P20 Pro looked much better. Don't have a need for S Pen on the Note, but added it in due to 6Gb ram. I'll be using the phone for 4 years or so if it survives as long as my S6.
Get the P20 Pro, if you do not need the SPen of the Note.

Especially with Huawei releasing the GPU Turbo Update, the P20 Pro is just going to get better overtime it seems.

Is your S6 also acting dog slow sluggish suddenly?

Like this past month my S6 started to act very suspiciously sluggish (no new apps or anything).

I wonder if Samsung is crippling the S6?

Performance is ok. Battery life and charging time is the problem.

Just an update.

Pulled the trigger and bought a Note 8 on prepaid. Just couldnt bring myself to take a contract.

P20 pro or mate 10 pro ... same chipset and functionality but different cameras. Telkom has a special on the dual sim Mate 10 pro for about R350 a month... now that's a bargain

I have a Note 8. Its nice. The P20 pro spec wise looks nice too. Not sure as to the camera quality. More MP doesnt really make the camera better, especially if it's not true pixels.

I have to admit I made my colleague take a P20 lite over the J7 Samsung, and am impressed with his phone. It's really nice and he is thoroughly enjoying it. As such the P20 Pro being the big brother would certainly be decent.

The Note 9 I cant say. If you're going to pay cash expect about R8k from what I can see on Gumtree. Be aware of the clones. An Iphone X or 7 or 8 plus can also be an option.

The new Iphones I have noticed suffers from antenna gate and again (3G and 4G signals are bad, and so are wifi reception). Supposedly they will fix it in software (which doesnt really convince me)

It all depends what you need it for, and what you are going to use it for. Everyone uses their phones for different functions, and that may not be of interest for you. ie you may want to use it more for taking pictures, and less games. Or more for games and not for pictures.

With everything going up in price (fuel, taxes, interest rates). I would suggest you try to stick towards your budget more, or put the difference in an investment instead. So if you're going to just use it for taking basic pictures and not really gaming etc. Then even a P20 lite can do, and you can pick one up for under R4k, and invest that R4-6k extra in an investment for a rainy day.

Rather get a good buffer.

He bought a phone 2 days ago already...

So far loving the phone. Just about done setting it up properly.

One gripe is the fingerprint sensor location. Hard to get to it with my cover on

I didn't really want orchard grey but the colour is actually stunning in hand

Yesterday was the first full day of normal use for me. I was very surprised to be going to bed at 10pm with 28% battery life remaining. I am a fairly heavy user but I am pleased with the battery life. Coming from my old S6 that needed to be charge like 4 times a day.

Note 8 has been at R10k a few days at Take a Lot FYI
