SA Air Force reassures commitment to national security, defence

Top notch compared to who?

Well compared to Sub Saharan Africa we are far ahead. We also compare well in terms of training with many first world air forces. I'm not saying we are on par with the US, UK, France etc. but we are up there. Our recentish excercise in Sweden affirmed that.

However we are slowly slipping and are far from where we were.

Oh ok..I understand. Any articles about the expcersise in Sweden?

I don't trust their reassurance if they don't stop smuggling forgeiners into the country using resources.

Please don't speak if you know nothing. Although our military has numerous problems. The training of our top tier squadrons is top notch.

Oh and FYI, our combat squadrons aren't based at Hoedspruit.
Indeed, he's spewing utter BS. As a pilot (not trained by the military but I work with the military boys all the time), I feel that good training and good pilots is the one thing we still have. The SU 30 theoretically may have range and performance to match the Gripen, but the electronics of the Angolan ones aren't up to scratch. Electronics is what the SAAF Gripen is all about. Any SU 30 from Angola would be shot down by the Gripen long before it has the opportunity to shoot back....and this is coming from someone who still thinks the Gripen purchase was stupid and unnecessary.

The South African Air Force has assured citizens of its readiness and commitment towards the national security
If they were truly committed to national security there would have been a military coup already, our biggest threat lives in Nkandla ... ;)

:D

On the other hand, thank goodness they take their oaths seriously. Once a military breaks out from civilian and constitution control, we're sunk for a century or two.

Actually, heard a lieutenant joke the other day about how he uses the potential bombing of Nkandla as an example when explaining the sophisticated electronics of the Gripen. Too bad it's only pretend pretend. At least the boys are prepared for it in case someone orders it to happen

I am not convinced the SANDF is ready for whatever... they have no money.

Bombing women and children in villages is nothing to be proud of.
No. But helping rid the earth of Nazism is, even at the terrible but sadly unavoidable price of unintentionally hurting the innocent. So was keeping the Commies out of S.Korea, Namibia, Angola... though that was less successful because of other factors. So are the hundreds and hundreds of mercy flights and rescue missions and casevacs done by SAAF pilots for nearly a century. I don't believe any SAAF pilot ever set out or wanted to hurt women and children. And for nearly a century they have distinguished themselves as flyers of the highest order, as good as the best elsewhere. SA, and the SAAF, has consistently produced some of the best aviators on the planet. Military and civil.

You've obviously not heard of laser-guided munitions?

Edit: Nevermind. I see you were talking in general terms and not referring to the hypothetical bombing of Nkandla. Do keep in mind though, that your race would probably not even exist on this planet today were it not for the assistance of allied forces, including the SAAF.
