SA broadband: still crawling the Internet

While most South African Internet users have to contend with maximum broadband speeds of between 1 and 4Mbps, the average Japanese user is enjoying download speeds of more than 63Mbps. This is according to a new study by the US-based Information Technology and Innovation Fund, a research think tank.

Oh boy, more of the same. Does this "journalist" have a point to all this, or is he just trying to make us even more depressed about the local bandwidth situation? Kinda like going to Ethiopia and telling all the starving residents that "in America, they eat CHEESEBURGERS! Every. Single. Day. You get a loaf of bread to share amongst seven of you once a month, but they get PIZZA, and CAKE! AND YOU DON'T, HAHAHA!"

No shiit the rest of the world has better bandwidth. Surely if they didn't this website wouldn't exist?
 
I know people are going to say "We can't be compared to 1st world countries" but rather don't tell us about it then, it is just so depressing.

Why does the articles always reflect the ADSL cost only! The telephone line is MANDATORY! NOT OPTIONAL!

This raises the cost even more!

Actually, guys, seriously, i download a LOT of stuff through local routing etc. I browse at moerse lekker speeds, it costs a bit, but not more than the average south african my age drinks and braai's out every month.

My point is im happy with where we are at the moment, i know were not super duper japanese but at least were going somewhere ya know...
 
What I would like to see is how we compare to the worlds worse. Who out there is worse than us in cost for internet?

I wish journalists would stop quoting the price of R150 for 384 etc. It is NOT POSSIBLE to get anything at that price as you need to pay for bandwidth and the telephone line. WAKE UP

there no point really given a price for only a part of the service, but hey if some part drops by halve i would like to know
