SA Chess portal going big

I hope Chesscube makes it big. I tested their platform and it is certainly on par with any other browser based service.

Amazing how much money is wasted on nonsense.

You're just jealous because a 2yo would beat you [-]and[/-] at chess.

I think it's awesome that money has been invested in the chess site.

Indeed ;)

Chess is officially a sport - and there are even arguments that it should be an olympic event: http://www.time.com/time/world/article/0,8599,1827716,00.html

As for the investment: I hope Chesscube pulls it off. There is a fair amount of money in chess, and it may as well flow into SA rather than the US or Europe. The guys behind Chesscube is smart and they have a good product. Making money is not easy, but they seem to have a good idea or two.

Jealous? Of what? A geeky boardgame? Pfft  That money could be spent in much better ways.

A sport? ROFL. I'm sorry. This is just too much for me.

lol i'm messing around, i also play chess but it doesnt go well with ADD :p

olympic sport? i dont think the olympics is long enough :D

Chess has as much point as rugby, or cricket, or any other past time. It's great to see local guys giving it a bash, and I hope they do well.

I'm not going to define it as a sport since it probably doesn't fit the textbook definition of one.

However, like I stated in my previous post, at the end of the day, it has about as much point as taking part in a rugby game, or a game of tennis, or whatever sport you play.

By this I mean:

In the grand scheme of things, if tomorrow everyone stopped playing:

Chess
Rugby
Tennis
Bowls
American Football

Would it have a major impact on the world? (Now I'm not talking about all the economic related things such as advertising etc. just the actual game itself.)

At the end of the day, sports are just games that have become more entrenched in society than another...

Great interface....sucks medium amounts of bandwidth.... 3 games costed me 15MB...give n take
