Encrypt all the broadcasts and those who want to watch SABC can pay for it.
Then there is no need for the TV license scam.

Up till now SABC license fees are compulsory simply because you a) have access (via your dish or aerial) and b) it's publically broadcast. But now if the signal is encrypted AND a person does NOT have the means to view/decrypt, ie no special decoder, then I would presume that fees would then not need to be paid. Personally, this I welcome. I don't have DSTV, and only occasionally watch E-tv. I could easily live without them. My entertainment comes from the internet.

No more taking a neighbor or family member along when shopping for a tv. :D

This is the same as the "user-pay principle" used by e-tolls.
What about the masses that can't afford a "SABC" license?
How are they going to access SABC propaganda?

$85,000 for something nobody will use? Wait what? So all the TV manufacturers need to pay them R1M for something they will not use. Wow, thats f@!$ing crazy......

Just noise...nothing to see here.

Goverment boxes will have nagravision, but you will be able to pick up the broadcasts fta using 3rd party boxes.Any paytv provider will be able to piggyback on the goverment box for a fee.The seperate channels can decide for themselves to use the nagra encryption or not.

If Nagra France is willing to scrap the license fee, which is per box,per month, its pretty clear where this noise comes from.

Definitely. But that might be exactly what they don't want because they rely on extorting fees from people who don't even watch their broadcasts. They'd have to cut you off for not paying rather than accumulating years of fees in the hope they can one day bully you into paying.

SABC will do everything they can do ensure that ALL tv units will continue to qualify for SABC licences.
The TV licence is their bread and butter.
So obviously it would be in their best interest to support boxes and tvs that are open and does not support encryption. Then they can force everyone to help fund their crap channels.
