Wait for all the myBB experts to tell you how it's not worth it :D

Well with competition like TopTV, it's not difficult to see/understand why their subscriber numbers have grown!

Online shopping sites like Kalahari and Takealot, as well as retail shops like Game, have been selling PVR decoders for cheap; some places even bundle them with flatscreen TVs. This could be one of the reasons for the increase in subscribers.

Selling the decoders for cheap and then fleecing people with the subscriptions; very good strategy they got going there.

6% increase in revenue...and a 19% increase in trading profit.
The trading margin also increased from 32% to 33% between September 2011 and September 2012.
Wishful thinking: You would think that with such huge profits that the end user monthly subscription would decrease (or not increase at all).

Willing to pay the high prices. Imagine we only have the pathetic sabc with their local crap to keep us entertained.

I don't envy them success but do so wish that they would better control their program information. Wrong programs on the screen and information prompt often occurs and they also do not tell you that this particular program is a repeat of one shown x months ago on "xxx" station. BBC E, Discovery, History etc seem to interchange programs and you can't trust the synopses for the info.

I'd like to understand why a monthly charge of R65 is required if you want to have access to PVR features.
They're getting a cool ~R48mil every month for that little service fee they charge us.

Because if you can force people who have no alternative to pay for something extra, why not?

It's the lack of viable alternatives that we find ourselves having to contend with Multichoice's overpriced product!

Is it overpriced though? If it's so expensive, you'd think it would be easy for someone to offer a cheaper competitive product.

You have it the wrong way round - it's the fact DSTV responded to market forces and give a good value for money option (Compact), that we don't have a viable alternative.

That might be more true if the regulatory environment wasn't constructed to effectively protect the monopoly provider (and only recently has one lone competitor been "allowed" to compete). Good luck getting your 'pay-TV license' application approved by ICASA. It's blatantly obvious that DSTV were protected from competition, which is why they could extract monopoly pricing for so long.

If it wasn't for my Monochoice staff discount, I would have scrapped my decoder years ago.

I can hear a lot of gulps from myBB experts, swallowing humble pie, who said BoxOffice would be a dud! R10m a month is a dud I wouldn't love!

How come the guys in the know are the ones who get it all wrong? iPad anyone?!!!
