The Department of Water Affairs has warned that South Africa faces "another Eskom" challenge if more money is not made available for bulk water infrastructure maintenance.
Water Affairs chief financial officer Onesmus Ayaya told MPs yesterday that much of South Africa's bulk water infrastructure was in danger of collapse and that water prices might therefore have to be revised.
Ayaya said many of the more than 400 "infrastructure assets that supply raw bulk water" were decades old and were increasingly permitting contamination of major water sources.
Repeated requests for additional funding had not delivered enough money to the department to solve the looming crisis, he said
oh sh*t
